Certified Or TechAssist in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Function as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate Pediatric Adolescent Adult and Geriatric age groups.Detailed responsibilities:Equipment & Supplies - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies equipment and instrumentsEquipment - Set up tables instruments and supplies required for specific operationsPatient Care - Assist in preparing and draping of patient and operating area prepare and maintain sterile field for surgical proceduresData - Maintain and assist with computerized data and charting probing and digital x-rays maintain dental laboratory slips and check in lab casesSpecimens - Assist in maintenance and care of specimens prepare specimens for laboratory analysisEquipment & Supplies - Decontaminate all equipment instruments and suppliesPatient Care - Assist with table equipment patient positioning and application of plaster casts and dressingsDocumentation - Document all patient care activitiesStock - Perform restocking duties as necessarySpecial Procedures - Function as a service coordinator with RN for special procedure preparationsSpecial Procedures - Maintain suture levels and assist in high level surgical procedures including vascular/aneurysm surgical proceduresResponse - Respond immediately to surgical supply requests from the Operating Room must react with a sense of urgency be courteous and service oriented at all timesSurgical Supply - Pick supplies instrumentation and other required items for the completion of Operating Room cases arrange supplies in the case carts according to procedure ensuring accuracy and proper documentation deliver completed case carts to the appropriate locations as determined by the Surgical Services DepartmentSurgical Supply - Communicate and find instrumentation requiring rapid turnaround for the next case understand event related sterility and sterility indicators check for discrepancies and take corrective action before making delivery of locationSurgical Supply - Report instrument malfunction and place instruments in the appropriate location for repairDevelopment - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs reading current literature attending in-services meetings and workshopsSurgical Supply - Receive used case carts and deliver to the decontamination roomPatient Safety 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies procedures and protocolsPatient Safety 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processesPatient Safety 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue riskPatient Safety 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns medical errors and/or near misses in a timely mannerPatient Safety 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"Qualifications:Related Education and Experience may be substituted for one another on a year for year basis.Education:Essential: High School or GED EquivalentNonessential: Program GraduateEducation specialization:Nonessential: Surgical TechnicianExperience:Essential: 2 years directly related surgical experienceNonessential: Bilingual English/Keres Tewa Tiwa Towa Zuni or NavajoCredentials:Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 daysNot Applicable/Not RequiredPhysical Conditions:Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.
