Delta Health is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Med Lab Tech Trainee to join our healthcare team. Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, this position plays an important role in supporting laboratory operations, providing quality specimen collection and processing, performing waived laboratory testing, and assisting laboratory technologists with daily workflow.

What You'll Do

• Perform accurate and compassionate phlebotomy and specimen collection for patients throughout the hospital.
• Register patients and verify patient identification and information prior to specimen collection.
• Collect, label, process, and prepare blood and other specimens according to laboratory procedures.
• Assist with preparing microbiology specimens for testing.
• Perform waived laboratory testing, including quality control and appropriate biohazard disposal.
• Recognize errors, unusual findings, and abnormal results and follow appropriate procedures for handling and reporting them.
• Accurately document and record laboratory test results.
• Assist laboratory technologists with routine laboratory duties and help maintain an efficient workflow.
• Operate, clean, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting of designated laboratory equipment.
• Follow appropriate blood collection procedures for infectious disease areas, nursery, surgery, and other special-care areas.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
• Follow all laboratory, hospital, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, hospital personnel, vendors, and visitors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required :

• Associate or Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.
• National registration through ASCP/HEW as an MLT or equivalent is required within 2½ years of hire, or at the start of the program for current employees.
• Enrollment in an approved MLT program is required within 6 months of hire. Current employees must provide proof of program enrollment prior to changing positions.

Preferred :

• Previous hospital laboratory experience.
• Three years of phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomy certification.
