Summary:
As the initial point of contact for the Boulder Valley School District the receptionist will primarily greet, welcome and provide assistance to visitors and callers to the Education Center. The receptionist is expected to maintain a safe and secure environment at the front entry of the building while ensuring the entry is accessible as necessary. The receptionist is expected to clearly and professionally communicate with the community in both English and Spanish, as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Greet, welcome, assist and direct visitors to the Education Center. Notify staff of visitor arrival.
- Manage a multi-line phone console including the Superintendent's line.
- Answer and screen incoming calls, respond to callers' inquiries, forward calls to appropriate individuals or voicemail boxes and take messages when needed. Provide customer service by explaining basic school/district procedures and requirements, uphold daily security standards including building access and screening precautions as necessary, etc., issue visitor passes, give direction to meeting rooms and areas throughout the building.
- Communicate with staff, administrators and/or others to respond to problems, issues and/or to assist during emergencies and drills at the Education Center.
- Perform general clerical duties as directed.
- May assist in coordinating and carrying out special projects, provide backup to other office personnel and/or functions as needed.
- Fully responsible for recording appropriate messaging for afterhours recordings, including snow days, breaks, building hours, temporary "away from desk" messaging, and other recordings as needed in both English and Spanish. Be available to answer phone calls remotely on snow days or other days when the District office may be closed.
- Manage a lost and found inventory including logging of items, return attempts, and purging of unclaimed items.
- Coordinate the use of BVSD's electric vehicles, including key check-out and return, and logging of driver's report of vehicle condition prior to and after use.
- Proactively pursue regular professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with supervisor to proactively arrange back-up support when time off is necessary; this includes arranging full and partial day substitute and hourly assistance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years experience in general office occupations, security occupations or equivalent education and computer experience.
- Completed and submitted BVSD on-line application.
- Intermediate Spanish speaking ability.
- Communicate (read, write and speak) in English.
Preferred:
- Willingness to learn proprietary software applications and be comfortable using technology
- Ability to immediately evaluate a situation and take appropriate action

- Advanced customer service and public relations skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to multitask at a high level with multiple distractions from the surrounding area; intense ability to focus yet maintain a keen awareness of surroundings.
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
- Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process. This information is provided in compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and is the company's good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation range and benefits offered for this position. The compensation offered to the successful applicant may vary based on factors including experience and education. All salaries are set by Human Resources based on a review of qualifications compared to the requirements on the ; therefore listing all related education and experience on your application is recommended.
