Cafeteria Monitor

The job of Cafeteria Monitor is done for the purpose of performing non-classroom supervision duties, in the cafeteria. This job reports to School Principal.

Part-Time 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Essential Functions

  • Follow outlined behavior support plan and reports recurring behavioral problems and/or safety hazards to teachers or other designated school staff for maintaining a safe school environment.
  • Monitor students during meal periods for maintaining acceptable behavioral standards at meals.
  • Promote standards of courtesy and behavior expected of students (e.g. at mealtimes for maintaining a school environment conducive to social and academic learning.
  • Provide supervision and direction to students during meals for ensuring a safe mealtime.
  • Respond to emergency situations (e.g. injured students, student disputes, etc.) for resolving immediate safety concerns and directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources for resolving issues, providing information and/or direction to other sources.
  • Direct movement of students entering and exiting the cafeteria.
  • Monitor execution of student duties – table washing and picking up trash.
  • Create seating chart of students for daily attendance and emergencies.

Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned for ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adhering to safety practices.

Knowledge is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Standards of courtesy and behavior expected of students; age appropriate activities; cultural competency while working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals; safety practices and procedures; and stages of child development is desirable.

Ability is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with others; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include communicating with persons of diverse backgrounds; adapting to changing work priorities; and maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 0% sitting, 10% walking, and 90% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.
