Senior Software Engineer for AI Model Training

SaidGig

Role Overview

Build reproducible software engineering challenges and gold-standard solutions that train and evaluate next-generation AI models. You will design reinforcement learning style environments that test an AI agent''s ability to fix bugs, implement features, refactor code, and optimize performance. No prior AI experience is required, domain and engineering expertise matter most. You will work remotely as a contractor and contribute directly to high-quality training data and evaluation assets for an AI data lab called micro1.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create reproducible reinforcement learning environments that represent realistic software engineering problems, including input, constraints, and evaluation criteria.
  • Author a golden reference solution for each task, with clear acceptance criteria and reproducible test cases.
  • Design problem statements that target bug fixing, feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and performance optimization scenarios.
  • Implement and validate example solutions in one or more languages such as Python3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript.
  • Debug complex software issues, deliver maintainable fixes, and document reasoning and steps taken.
  • Optimize code for performance and scalability, and include measurable performance baselines where relevant.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional reviewers to ensure tasks meet project specifications and quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in one or more of Python3, Java, Rust, or TypeScript. Experience with C++ or Go is a strong asset.
  • Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, and performance tuning.
  • Proven experience debugging complex systems and delivering maintainable solutions.
  • Track record of feature development, codebase refactoring, and performance optimization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail in documentation and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience working effectively in collaborative, cross-functional teams, ideally in remote settings.
  • Preferred, but not required: experience with large-scale distributed codebases, familiarity with modern AI or machine learning systems, and active participation in rigorous code reviews and software best practices.
Work Terms
  • Engagement type, independent contractor.
  • Estimated commitment, approximately 15 hours per week.
  • Location, fully remote.
  • Task-based work, time to complete each task may vary by expert experience and workflow.
  • Minimum submission requirements apply. Experts must submit a minimum of tasks per week.
Compensation
  • Pay range, $50 to $150 per hour.
  • Compensation is output-based, experts are paid per task that meets project specifications.
  • Actual time spent on tasks will vary, payment is tied to task acceptance and meeting minimum submission requirements.
Eligibility and Application Process
  • No prior AI experience required, subject matter and engineering expertise are the primary qualifications.
  • Roles are typically filled quickly, often within 48 hours of posting, so candidates should be ready to begin promptly.
  • If selected, you will complete onboarding and are expected to start your first tasks within 24 to 48 hours after onboarding is finished.
  • To apply, submit your materials for evaluation; selected experts will be onboarded and provided the initial tasks and instructions to begin work.
