Salary Range: $29.61 hourly; $61,826 annually Classified Status: Non‑Status during 6‑week training; thereafter Corrections Officer 1. Union: AFSCME Unit 208 after appointment to CO1. Responsibilities Ensure the safety, security, and control of the correctional facility. Supervise incarcerated individuals to encourage positive behavior and prepare for community transition. Provide clear, accurate, and timely information in both written and verbal communication. Operate all equipment efficiently and safely. Respond to emergencies using Incident Command System (ICS) procedures. Follow all agency and state policies and statutes, and support DOC vision, mission, values, and goals. Minimum Qualifications Minimum age 18 (adult facility) or 21 (juvenile facility). High school diploma or GED. Pass criminal history check, including completion of sentencing/res restitution obligations. Must possess a firearm; may need permit to purchase. Valid driver's license. At least one of the following: One year full‑time experience in any field. Two years part‑time experience (≥20 hrs/wk) in any field. Associate degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, or related field. Bachelor’s degree in any field. Honorable or current military discharge/active. Internship in a Minnesota Correctional Facility security area. Additional Requirements Pass tuberculosis screening, respirator clearance, and Physical Demands Analysis. Receive area exposure to DOC‑approved chemical irritant. Undergo background checks per DOC policy, including predatory offender registration and employment history. Fingerprinting within first 30 days.
