Job Summary

The Field Services Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing day-to-day Field Services operations, with a primary focus on safe, efficient, and high quality data collection across multi-disciplinary field teams. This role leads Ground Survey Technicians, UAS Pilots, GPR Technicians, and field data processing staff, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards while managing logistics, equipment readiness, and schedule execution across active projects. The Field Services Supervisor maintains a working knowledge of geospatial data workflows to support effective coordination with the Geospatial Solutions Supervisor and ensure continuity of operations when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Leadership and Team Management:

• Lead and supervise a diverse field team including Field Technicians, UAS Pilots, and GPR Technicians, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance feedback.
• Support hiring, onboarding, and training for new field staff, reinforcing company standards, safety expectations, and operational procedures.
• Foster a positive, accountable team culture that emphasizes safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrate hands-on leadership by actively participating in field activities and modeling best practices across all field disciplines.
• Conduct regular performance conversations, identify development opportunities, and support the professional growth of team members at all levels.

• Field Operations Planning and Execution:

• Plan, organize, and schedule Field Services activities to meet project requirements, client deadlines, and budget constraints.
• Coordinate daily and weekly work plans with project management, engineering, and geospatial processing teams.
• Ensure accurate data capture using cameras, GPS/GNSS, UAS, GPR, and other field equipment, verifying that all crew members are following established collection procedures.
• Monitor field progress against schedule, proactively identifying and resolving issues related to access, weather, equipment, staffing, or client requirements.
• Continuously evaluate and refine field workflows for efficiency, including optimizing crew configurations, routing, and daily production targets.

• Safety and Compliance:

• Lead job safety planning including pre-job briefings, tailboards, JSA development, and site safety checks before and during field operations.
• Ensure all field staff follow company and client safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and FAA aviation guidelines for UAS operations.
• Investigate field incidents or near-misses, document findings thoroughly, and implement corrective actions in coordination with safety leadership.
• Champion a safety-first culture that emphasizes hazard recognition, stop-work authority, and proactive reporting of unsafe conditions.
• Maintain currency with applicable safety regulations, utility industry standards, and client-specific safety requirements.

• Equipment, Fleet, and Logistics Management:

• Oversee the allocation, deployment, maintenance, and care of all field equipment, including survey instruments, UAS systems, GPR units, cameras, and related hardware.
• Coordinate with fleet management to schedule proactive vehicle maintenance, track field incidents, and ensure roadworthiness of all assigned vehicles.
• Maintain inventory control for field equipment, ensuring operational readiness, calibration compliance, and minimal unplanned downtime.
• Plan and coordinate logistics for crew travel, lodging, and mobilization and demobilization as required by project assignments.

• Data Capture Quality Assurance:

• Ensure that all field data capture follows defined procedures, naming conventions, and metadata requirements to support downstream geospatial processing.
• Conduct field-level QC on collected data before handoff to the geospatial processing team, including completeness checks, positional verification, and documentation review.
• Collaborate with the Geospatial Solutions Supervisor to understand data requirements and integrate processing feedback into field practices and crew training.
• Maintain working knowledge of LiDAR, GPR, thermal imagery, and other field data types sufficient to make quality-informed field decisions and support crew accountability.

• Communication and Client Interaction:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day field-related questions from internal stakeholders and, as appropriate, from client representatives in the field.
• Communicate project status, risks, field conditions, and crew performance clearly and proactively to the Superintendent of Field Services and project teams.
• Maintain accurate field documentation using standard methods including daily reports, logs, field photographs, and incident notes.
• Support business development efforts by providing field input on scope, schedule assumptions, crew requirements, and operational feasibility.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Maintain a working knowledge of geospatial processing workflows, data pipelines, and platform procedures to ensure seamless coordination with the Geospatial Solutions Supervisor.
• Provide basic operational support for geospatial-related tasks when the Geospatial Solutions Supervisor is unavailable, including initiating data uploads, performing basic QA checks, and communicating status updates.
• Share field insights and operational observations that can improve geospatial workflows, data quality standards, and service delivery.
• Administrative and Operational Support:
• Assist with planning and tracking field-related costs, including labor hours, travel expenses, and equipment utilization.
• Support document management for field operations, including SOPs, safety checklists, field procedures, and training materials.
• Coordinate and participate in operational planning meetings related to field performance, safety, crew readiness, and project priorities.
• Perform other tasks related to Field Services and operations management as directed by the Superintendent of Field Services.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Geomatics, Surveying, Geography, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.

• Demonstrated experience in field operations supervision, including crew management, scheduling, and multi-project coordination.

• Strong understanding of Field Services practices, T&D infrastructure, and field safety requirements.

• Experience with survey equipment including GPS/GNSS, UAS, cameras, and GPR.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Pro, and standard project tracking and field documentation tools.

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.

• Ability to travel frequently with overnight stays as required by project and crew oversight responsibilities.

• Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple crews and competing priorities simultaneously.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience leading crews and interacting with clients and internal stakeholders.

• Committed to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in all aspects of field operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate or demonstrated working knowledge of UAS operations and regulatory requirements.

• Working knowledge of LiDAR data collection concepts and basic data quality considerations.

• Familiarity with GIS and geospatial workflows, with the ability to collaborate effectively with office-based processing teams.

• Experience with field data collection applications, UAS flight planning software, and basic GIS or mapping tools.

• Familiarity with fleet management processes, equipment calibration requirements, and field logistics coordination.

• Experience training and mentoring field personnel across multiple disciplines, including new hires and cross-training programs.

• Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment under pressure in dynamic field environments.

• Willingness to develop working knowledge of geospatial processing workflows to support effective cross-functional coverage.
