San Diego Youth Services Job Announcement Facilities Manager San Diego Youth Services seeks a Facilities Manager to be based in San Diego. This is a full-time & nonexempt position reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. Who we are San Diego Youth Services has helped improve the lives of more than 840,000 homeless, runaway and vulnerable youth since its beginning in 1970. We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. San Diego Youth Services has long provided foster homes and adoption support services for families considering adopting a youth in the foster care system. Help youth develop life skills. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets. Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources. SDYS has a staff of approximately 250 employees and 80 volunteers working across San Diego County and an annual budget of approximately $24 million. You can learn more about us at Essential Functions Provide full operational oversight of SDYS’s 10 sites, including offices and apartments, to ensure properties are safe, functional, well‑maintained, and aligned with agency standards. Oversee, assign, and prioritize maintenance and repair work across all SDYS properties, including preventive, routine, emergency, and turnover‑related maintenance needs. Lead and oversee the maintenance team, including assigning daily work, monitoring performance, ensuring timely completion of tasks, and supporting a high standard of service across all sites. Coordinate and supervise outside vendors and contractors as needed, ensuring quality work, timely completion, and compliance with SDYS expectations and property requirements. Develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive maintenance schedule and inspection process for all SDYS sites to support safety, habitability, appearance, and long‑term asset preservation. Partner with program, administrative, and site leadership staff to identify facility needs, resolve property issues, and coordinate repairs and maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations. Manage rent collection for market‑rate tenants, including tracking payments, following up on delinquencies, maintaining accurate records, and coordinating with internal departments as needed. Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, work order, vendor, and tenant‑related records, and support compliance with agency policies and applicable requirements. Maintain professional, welcoming, and safe office and residential environments across all SDYS properties. Communicate effectively through e‑mail, phone, and property management systems, and manage the agency’s maintenance work request process. Support and coordinate site improvement, capital repair, and special maintenance projects in collaboration with leadership and external partners. Provide responsive customer service and maintain positive working relationships with staff, tenants, vendors, and community partners. Support compliance with applicable housing, property, and agency requirements, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders related to site operations. Assist in identifying and implementing facility improvement opportunities that enhance site operations, efficiency, and long‑term property condition. Perform other related duties as assigned. Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service partner protected health information and other applicable information and material in accordance to agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws including HIPAA. Requirements and Qualifications Six years’ experience in general repairs and building maintenance to include electrical, drywall, carpentry, doors, windows, painting, plumbing, lock repair, etc. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, the internet and electronic communications. Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance. Must provide own transportation and tools. Must be willing to be fingerprinted and other clearance processes (hire is pending the results of appropriate clearances). Must be able to work with and represent a culturally and ethnically diverse community. Physical Requirements Ability to perform duties that may include traversing throughout facilities for extended periods. Ability to access various areas of the facility, which may include stairs, ladders, rooftops, and confined spaces. Ability to move and handle materials and equipment, which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling items of varying weights. Ability to use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, building systems, and standard office technology. Ability to position oneself (e.g., bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching) to inspect, maintain, or assess equipment and facilities. Sufficient visual and auditory ability to perform inspections, identify safety concerns, and respond to alarms or alerts. Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, including indoors, outdoors, and exposure to noise, dust, or temperature variations. Ability to respond to urgent facility needs or emergencies as they arise. Supervisory responsibilities: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
