Maintenance Technician - Lead

Job Summary Under general direction, this position oversees the work of a team that inspects, maintains, and repairs buildings or grounds which may include electrical or HVAC systems, or other amenities. The role ensures tools are maintained in good working order and that any chemicals used are handled appropriately. The supervisor maintains an inventory of supplies, coordinates work of specialists or external contractors, organizes and prioritizes tasks, interviews and recommends on hiring, and provides input into performance reviews. Guidance is given to others performing similar work, but termination and pay decisions are outside the supervisor’s responsibilities. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Maintain equipment and perform preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot, repair equipment, and perform inspections to ensure efficient operation. Monitor the Energy Management Control Systems to maintain comfort control and repair HVAC‑related equipment as needed. Attend scheduled meetings and required trainings to keep current industry knowledge. Track work requests and order parts through the FAMIS system as required. Provide additional maintenance support such as electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, and general campus maintenance. Execute skilled trade and journeyman‑level repairs or installations based on area of assignment and expertise. Offer support during college‑sponsored events. Efficiently manage and process incoming work orders through the Work Order Management System. Perform all other duties and responsibilities district‑wide as assigned or directed by the supervisor. Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational or technical training in a skilled trade preferred. Minimum five years of related experience with equipment maintenance required. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Valid Florida driver’s license. Knowledge of skilled trades essential for assigned responsibilities. Effective communication skills (both written and oral). Ability to perform a variety of duties, often switching from one task to another of a different nature. Groundskeeping and landscape maintenance skills. Electrical maintenance skills. HVAC maintenance skills. Plumbing maintenance skills. Construction project skills. Ability to adapt and maintain professional composure in emergent and crisis situations. Skill in operating relevant equipment required to complete assigned responsibilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows‑based applications. Organizing, prioritizing, and planning project skills. On‑call rotation duties. Availability for some evening or weekend work hours. Flexibility, initiative, efficiency, teamwork, and self‑motivation. Physical Demands Work is performed primarily in a non‑traditional environment with staff contact and frequent interruptions. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in this setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy loads (over 50 pounds); to operate various equipment; and to travel to other locations as required. The position may expose the employee to hazardous conditions such as extreme heat, cold, infectious disease, moving vehicles, electrical current, chemicals, tight spaces, high places, and moving mechanical parts. Vision and hearing should be within normal ranges, with or without correction.
