Role Description

The Registered Nurse Resident is an on-site role located in Tucson, AZ, designed for nurses transitioning into professional practice or a new specialty area. This position involves providing direct, evidence-based patient care under the guidance of experienced preceptors and clinical leaders, including assessing patient status, administering medications and treatments, and monitoring responses to care. The RN Resident collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, participates in care planning and patient/family education, and supports a safe, compassionate environment that aligns with TMC's standards and policies. Day-to-day responsibilities include documenting care accurately, engaging in unit-based quality and safety initiatives, and attending structured education, mentorship, and skills development sessions as part of the residency program. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts as needed to meet patient care and training requirements.

Qualifications

Active Arizona RN license or compact state license (or eligibility to obtain), and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Life Support certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) preferred or required based on unit.

Recent graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN); BSN preferred. Prior clinical rotations or healthcare experience in acute care settings is beneficial.

Foundational clinical nursing skills, including patient assessment, safe medication administration, documentation in electronic health records, and basic IV therapy skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, including the ability to give and receive feedback in a learning environment.

Critical thinking, clinical judgment, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize care in a fast-paced hospital setting and follow evidence-based protocols.

Commitment to professional development, openness to coaching and mentorship, and willingness to participate fully in all components of the nurse residency curriculum.
