Medical Surgical Department LPNThe Medical Surgical Department LPN provides care for patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The medical/surgical LPN collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. LPNs work under the direction of Registered Nurses and/or Physicians.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesManages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the Registered Nurse or attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.Records patients' current vital signs.Works directly under Registered Nurses, and physicians, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing, routine assessment, and treatments.Prepares, administers, and records prescribed medications (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV). Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed nurse.Provides routine assessmentProvides IV therapy.Provides wound/incisional care.Provides basic, bedside care.Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients.Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies.Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as provides referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment.Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format within the Electronic Health Record.Float among various departments as required.Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activitiesProtects patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with HIPAA and privacy laws.Other duties as may be assigned.Job RequirementsEducation: Graduation from an accredited LPN program required.Certification/Licensure: Current License as a Practical Nurse in the State of Indiana.Experience: At least two (2) years of previous experience as an LPN in a hospital setting.Excellent customer service skills required. Great interpersonal and communications skills required. Basic computer knowledge necessary.
