Warehouse Associate / Material Handler

Location: Portsmouth, VA
Schedule: Monday - Friday 10am to 6:30pm
Pay Rate: $17.85/hr.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable Warehouse Associate / Material Handler to support daily warehouse and distribution operations in a quality-focused environment. This position is responsible for operating forklifts, receiving and inspecting incoming products, processing inventory transactions, packaging and labeling customer orders, and ensuring materials are accurately received, stored, picked, and replenished.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working with computer systems, and able to follow written procedures while maintaining a strong focus on quality, safety, inventory accuracy, and customer service .

Key Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts and warehouse equipment safely and efficiently to move, store, and retrieve materials.
• Receive incoming products and verify quantities and product information against shipping manifests for accuracy.
• Inspect incoming materials for accuracy, condition, identification, and other established requirements.
• Process inventory transactions using computer systems, including receipts, putaways, picks, and replenishments .
• Package and label customer orders accurately according to established procedures.
• Ensure products and materials are properly identified, stored, and handled throughout the warehouse.
• Monitor inventory and promptly communicate inventory discrepancies to Inventory Control or management for resolution.
• Work effectively with Quality Assurance (QA) teams to review and disposition incoming product as required.
• Follow written operating procedures, work instructions, and established quality processes when completing warehouse activities.
• Perform basic math calculations and make appropriate decisions based on written procedures and available information.
• Maintain accurate records and complete required computer transactions and documentation.
• Support the effectiveness of the company's Quality System by following applicable policies, procedures, and quality requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and work area.
• Follow all applicable safety procedures, PPE requirements, and forklift operating guidelines .
• Communicate effectively with warehouse, inventory control, quality, and management teams.
• Perform other warehouse and material-handling duties as assigned.

Quality & Compliance

• Support the implementation and maintenance of an effective Quality Management System .
• Follow established SOPs, work instructions, quality procedures, and safety requirements .
• Ensure incoming materials and customer orders are handled accurately and according to established requirements.
• Partner with QA to appropriately review and disposition incoming products.
• Maintain accurate inventory transactions and documentation to support traceability and inventory accuracy .

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations .
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written operating procedures and work instructions .
• Ability to make decisions based on established procedures.
• Previous warehouse, material handling, receiving, inventory, or distribution experience is preferred.
• Previous forklift experience or certification is preferred.
• Comfortable using computers and learning warehouse/inventory systems.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment while maintaining productivity and accuracy.
