Assistant Transportation Engineer

Job Posting Position: Assistant Transportation Engineer (Field) Office/Bureau: Project Development - Bridge Program Salary: $54,412.80 – $76,315.20 per year Opening Date: July 2, 2026 | Closing Date: July 17, 2026 Job Description Perform moderate complexity engineering functions supporting construction and maintenance of public works structures, systems, and facilities, including bridges. Inspect and document work performed by private contractors on bridge projects and test materials such as concrete and pavement. Responsibilities Interpret plans and specifications that relate to the project. Perform inspection and measurement of the work. Maintain records and test materials used by the contractor. Perform other assigned tasks related to projects. May act as Resident Inspector on selected projects and be introduced to project management principles and advanced technical engineering duties. Assist in development of projects, including design, plan development, and quantity and cost estimating. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related field. Non‑engineering graduates must hold a Certification of Engineer‑Intern issued by the Maine State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. Licensing / Registration / Certification Requirements (All employees must meet prior to attaining permanent status) Non‑degreed candidates must possess Certification as Engineer Intern issued by the Maine State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
