Let’s build on that promise and orchestrate together the future we can all be proud of.Wrapping up an inspiring X-Mentoring program and feeling truly grateful Over the past year, I had the opportunity to participate in a cross-company mentoring program with companies from the region — an experience that offered valuable perspectives and meaningful personal growth. Special thanks to my mentor Larissa Merkl for the deep insights, honest feedback and constant inspiration — and especially for her strong commitment to empowering women in chemistry. Your perspective, role-model mindset and encouragement to confidently shape a career in a scientific environment made this experience truly impactful. I’m also very thankful to for giving me the opportunity and the trust to participate in this journey.An experience I truly value — and one that shows how inspiring mentoring can be. Couple weeks ago I was in Malaysia. Customer visits, technical sessions, walking through production plants. And plenty of meals in between.Sales, marketing, engineering, production, R&D, procurement — everyone looks at the same business from a different angle. And every conversation gives you a small piece of the truth. On its own it’s incomplete. Put together, it starts to make sense.It also reminded me how easy it is to look at additives as commodities today. When there are so many choices, it’s tempting to focus only on the product. But the conversations tell a different story.Business is all about listening long enough to understand the full picture, then figuring out how we can actually help. A solution, not an offer.I enjoy this part of the job. It feels a bit like detective work — asking, listening, connecting dots. The more time you invest, the clearer things become. When it finally clicks, the travel and long days feel worth it.And none of this is done alone. Every visit is backed by a team that prepares, challenges, and supports each other. I take away valuable learnings that I will carry forward in my professional journey.Last week, Lydia Wong, Gabriele Rettig, and I had the joy of hosting around 40 female STEM students from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Universitas Gadjah Mada, University of Indonesia and Nanyang Technological University Singapore for a 3‑day immersive study trip in Singapore. As part of “Grow Beyond Yourself”, at this Young Women in STEN joint initiative by Evonik, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, and INSPIRASI, we created space for honest conversations, real‑world exposure, and role‑model storytelling across industry and academia.At Evonik Biopolis, the students connected with female scientists who shared their career journeys—the wins, the doubts, and the turning points that shaped their paths. At Evonik Jurong Island, they learned from female engineers about career development, leadership on site, and how engineering decisions create real‑world impact. At NTU, they engaged in thoughtful dialogue with well‑known female professors, gaining perspective on research, resilience, and purpose. I hope this experience inspires the students to stay curious, resilient, and committed to STEM.Personally, I left feeling energized by the students’ spirit, questions, and determination. I also learned a great deal—from the students themselves, and from the inspiring female scientists, engineers, and professionals at Evonik and NTU who generously shared their stories. These moments reminded me why mentorship and community truly matter. During this time, I explored the benefits, challenges and limitations of AI. Working on one of the central issues of our time was very meaningful to me. I was particularly motivated by the question of how AI can effectively contribute to work. I identified numerous opportunities to integrate AI into existing processes, particularly in patent analysis, market analysis, and regulatory affairs. Furthermore, I gained valuable experience working in a large company outside academia. Alongside the exciting work, I met many supportive people. My internship would not have been as valuable without the support, great discussions and inspiration of this team.Thank you for this great opportunity! I am now looking forward to writing my master's thesis on Sodium-Ion Batteries at the Institute of Business Chemistry. My research will examine the global connections and dependencies between the distribution of resources and value chains in different countries and regions.
