Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: 2+ years License: RN Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Charge experience - Ventilator experience - Telemetry experience - Wound care experience - IV start skills - Surgical/post-operative care experience Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Med Surg/Telemetry setting. The facility is a Level III Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. There are a total of 933 beds, including 24 private rooms. The patient population includes individuals with COPD, chest pain, post-cardiac catheterization, COVID, diabetes, cellulitis, chronic trachs, wounds, ventilators, surgical patients, and heart failure. The average length of stay for patients is 5 to 10 days. Travelers will care for ventilated patients and will receive a 2-3 hour class on ventilation management. Registered Nurses manage the patients while Respiratory Therapists manage the ventilators. Patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and evening shifts and 1:6-7 during night shifts for RNs. There are additional staff to support the unit, including a charge nurse, unit secretary, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, and a centralized telemetry monitoring team. The charting system used is EPIC, and additional equipment includes Alaris, Pyxis, and GE monitors. Schedulers create a schedule six weeks in advance with a two-week notification period. Everyone is expected to adhere to a fatigue policy, which restricts working hours to no more than 60 in a week or five consecutive 12-hour shifts. The unit culture is described as fast-paced, with high acuity and excellent staff communication and teamwork. RNs must document pain levels before and after administering pain medication according to pain management orders. The dress code permits any scrub color, excluding camo and denim.
