Substance Abuse Counselor

We are hiring for a Substance Abuse Counselor to work with young adults during their recovery. The Young adults will arrive ready to build skills, earn credentials, and launch careers—yet substance use can stall that progress. You will deliver evidence-based counseling that keeps students in training, restores stability, and turns setbacks into lasting recovery so they complete their programs and enter the workforce.

• Complete comprehensive assessments for every referred student within 72 hours and enroll 90% in individualized treatment plans within the first week.
• Deliver individual and group sessions that produce measurable reductions in use and 80% attendance at scheduled counseling over 90 days.
• Design and run monthly prevention workshops that cut substance-related incidents by 25% within six months.
• Coordinate with instructors, residential advisors, and medical staff so 85% of participating students maintain academic and vocational progress.
• Document all contacts, progress notes, and outcomes in the student information system with 100% compliance and zero audit findings.
• Facilitate family or community re-entry meetings that result in 70% of graduating students having a documented aftercare plan.

You report to the Health and Wellness Manager and work inside a multidisciplinary team of counselors, instructors, and residential staff. You have access to standard assessment tools, group rooms, and a modest program budget for materials and guest speakers. The setting is a residential education campus serving young adults pursuing high-school equivalency and career-technical credentials.

• Current state license or certification as a substance-abuse counselor (or equivalent) with at least two years of direct counseling experience with adolescents or young adults.
• Proven ability to write and execute treatment plans that produce documented reductions in use and improved program retention.
• Experience delivering both individual and group interventions in an educational or residential setting.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed and motivational-interviewing approaches plus accurate, timely clinical documentation.
• Ability to collaborate across departments and maintain confidentiality under federal education and privacy rules.

Salary range is $25.00 to $32.00 an hour dependent on experience.
