Natural Resources Monitor

Position Summary This is a full‑time (40 hours per week plus overtime) position on a large‑scale government project in the Laredo, Texas sector along the US/Mexico border. The role involves environmental monitoring and compliance at a construction site. Responsibilities Provide daily environmental field notes with photographs regarding compliance with project best management practices. Collect project‑related data, including surveys for listed species; conduct surveys in front of construction; document potential environmental best management practices non‑compliance and report to government point of contact. Conduct pre‑construction surveys for nesting birds, state and federally listed plants and wildlife, as needed. Mark off areas for avoidance to protect sensitive resources. Effectively communicate with a variety of personnel: construction personnel, government officials, colleagues, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and others. Requirements BS in biological sciences or related field. Two years of previous environmental monitoring at construction sites required. Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions (extreme heat, rain, or cold) and potentially traverse steep terrain. Ability to work independently; position may vary in intensity but requires presence in the field weekdays for one year. Effective written and verbal communication; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus. Familiarity with taxonomy and strong plant identification skills for areas along the U.S./Mexico border. Detail‑oriented with mechanical aptitude and hands‑on troubleshooting/problem‑solving skills. Multi‑tasking and maintaining flexibility; ability to travel and work independently as well as under supervision. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
