Strategic Account Manager - NYC Metro Water Solutions

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Strategic Account Manager is a hybrid hunter/farmer role covering the NYC metro area, responsible for both winning new business and growing existing Chemstar WATER accounts across data centers, healthcare, government, and food manufacturing. This person will own the full sales cycle — prospecting, consultative selling, proposal development, and close — while also serving as the day‑to‑day relationship owner for their book of business, ensuring customer satisfaction, retention, and expansion of additional services including Water Management Plans and supplemental disinfection. Armed with in‑house expertise in chemistry, water treatment equipment, and operations, the Account Manager is the backbone of Chemstar WATER’s customer experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Quality & Execution Thoroughly review, understand, and align with the scope of work for each customer, ensuring service plans comply with contracts and proposals. Plan and execute customer visits meticulously, ensuring timely arrival, access, and seamless work execution. Verify that water analysis and testing completed by service technicians adheres to Chemstar WATER’s high standards. Conduct required water sample collection, perform quality tests in the field, and document results in the Chemstar‑online reports app. Adjust chemical feed rates based on results, documenting all actions and recommendations to optimize resources and improve gross margins. Customer Relationship Management Act as a steadfast customer advocate, influencing internal operations teams to maintain a customer‑centric approach. Develop and manage relationships with qualified buyers (executives, directors of facilities, property managers) to meet and exceed expectations. Resolve issues promptly with a bias for action, ensuring customer satisfaction and long‑term loyalty. Conduct Annual Business Reviews with 100% of assigned accounts, ensuring alignment with customer goals and company objectives. Revenue Growth & Account Expansion Proactively acquire new accounts across the territory, expanding Chemstar WATER’s market presence and contributing to revenue growth. Cultivate and deepen relationships with existing customers, identifying needs and uncovering opportunities for upsell and cross‑sell. Improve gross margin of existing accounts by optimizing dosage, inventory, ordering patterns, and identifying additional service opportunities. Negotiate and renegotiate contract terms and pricing with both existing and prospective clients, aligned with company guidelines. Create and present professional proposals using company templates and pricing guidelines for both existing and prospective clients. Operational Excellence Maintain and validate the operation of all water treatment equipment during visits and manage chemical inventory at customer sites. Understand when work falls outside the contracted scope to ensure proper billing and margin improvement. Maintain comprehensive service logs and records for accurate billing and reporting. Training & Team Support Train and develop service technicians and educate customers on water treatment parameters and expectations. Support and collaborate with other Account Managers and Service Technicians, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork. Complete and regularly leverage the educational resources of Chemstar WATER University. Safety & Compliance Uphold and enforce all safety measures of the company and the site, ensuring a safe working environment with a target of zero OSHA recordable incidents. Maintain good housekeeping standards at both the Chemstar WATER site and customer locations, delivering chemicals as needed. Ensure 100% compliance across all accounts with the Account Checklist, covering tubing types, correct products, tanks, and customer relations.

KEY OUTCOMES

Zero OSHA recordable incidents — demonstrating a steadfast commitment to safety and regulatory compliance. Zero customer attrition due to service — maintaining exceptional service quality across the territory. 100% Annual Business Review completion for all assigned accounts. 100% Account Checklist compliance across all accounts. 100% fulfillment of all scope‑of‑work goals and objectives set with customers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required 4‑year degree in life sciences, chemistry, environmental science, or a related field — or a minimum of 10 years of water treatment field experience in lieu of a degree. Strong understanding of chemistry and water treatment fundamentals, with a proven ability to troubleshoot and solve problems at customer sites. Proficiency or willingness to become proficient with Association of Water Technologies (AWT) testing standards. Outstanding communication and relationship‑building skills, with strong written, verbal, and analytical abilities. Ability to perform basic hands‑on plumbing and electrical work as needed. Proficiency with enterprise computer systems including Microsoft Office Suite and ERP platforms. Valid driver’s license and U.S. citizenship required. Must reside within the Northern NJ / NY / NYC metro service territory. Preferred Prior experience in B2B water treatment sales or industrial services with a track record of meeting or exceeding growth targets. CWT (Certified Water Technologist) or AWT certification. Experience managing accounts across commercial & institutional accounts.

PHYSICAL / SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry equipment over 2–3 flights of stairs. Ability to work in hot and humid environments (100°F+) and climb ladders to access rooftops and mechanical spaces. Regular standing, walking, reaching, and handling tasks at customer locations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Field‑based role with regular travel throughout the Northern NJ / NY / NYC metro territory, working from home as a base. Diverse customer environments including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and office settings. Regular work hours, with additional hours as needed to support customer and commercial needs.

TERRITORY

Northern New Jersey, New York, and the greater NYC metro area. Accounts will be assigned based on geographic location within the territory. Candidate should reside within the service territory to start from home to service accounts.
