About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pediatric Psychiatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required. Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred. License: Valid state nursing license required. Certifications: BLS required. MOAB obtained onsite. Must-Have: De-escalation experience. Experience with physical restraints. Comfortable running group sessions. Excellent documentation skills. Description: Immediate start needed. Interviews will be conducted followed by manager approval. The facility has a pediatric and adult psychiatric unit. Patients are admitted involuntarily and voluntarily. Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. The adult population commonly presents with schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. No forensic patients or inmates will be present. Seclusion rooms are available when necessary. Occasionally, substance use disorder or detoxing patients may be admitted, provided they are medically cleared. The facility provides traditional medical and psychiatric care, alongside specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient ratios for RNs on night shifts are 1:13, with resources available for support. Support on the unit includes a Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Manager, and nurse practitioners. Charting system used is Cerner. Travelers will float between pediatric and adult units as needed. Travelers may be assigned every other weekend. Holidays will be worked in rotation. Approval for time off is limited. Scrubs should be in solid colors and must be professional. All staff are trained to manage patient escalations. A debriefing form should be completed after any escalation incident. Managers and supervisors are available for support during escalations. Scenario-based training is offered every other week for practice in de-escalation techniques.
