Solid Waste Technician

This is a professional, highly skilled technical work on landfill infrastructure including working with instrumentation technology and associated components such as electrical panels, pumps, compressors and monitoring networks for landfill gas collection & destruction and leachate disposal systems. Work includes the responsibility for installations, repairs, adjustments, troubleshooting, maintenance and monitoring of the infrastructure systems and components as well as coordination and monitoring of work performed by contractors on same.

Diagnoses, installs, repairs, overhauls, maintains and adjusts highly technical and sophisticated equipment including digital electronic equipment and transmittal of data through cellular networks.

Responds to emergency notifications of infrastructure system failures.

Maintains instrumentation equipment, as well as hardware and software.

Assists with preparation of technical specifications for digital electronics equipment, instrumentation equipment, and other hardware and software.

Prepares data and submits reports as assigned or directed to regulatory agencies for permitting purposes.

Starts up, programs, check systems, diagnose troubleshoots or maintains system problems, etc.

Recommends improvements to system design, operations, software and maintenance.

Orders parts, equipment upgrades or replacement and maintains inventory.

Coordinates work as it relates to infrastructure systems to include contractors, county-staff and self.

Develops, coordinates and maintains preventative maintenance program for landfill infrastructure systems.

Develops and prepares solicitations to procure services, equipment and supplies.

Serves as the inspector "on duty" at the Central County Landfill site to ensure compliance with contracted operations. Records inspection information according to contract stipulations and addresses non-compliance issues. Notifies management and contractors of deficiencies in work and safety concerns. Investigates and remedies complaints from landfill customers. Verifies and revises load ticket information as required.

Ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations at the closed landfill sites by performing visual inspections. Records inspection information.

Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Work schedule will include working a minimum of two Saturday's/month and flexing workdays throughout the week.

Minimum Qualifications: Technical School diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of experience in related field OR a High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electronics equipment and related infrastructure systems for landfill gas and leachate systems including telemetry and IT Technologies. Certification may be required as assigned by management.

Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of experience working with landfill gas collection & destruction systems and leachate collection systems preferred. Working knowledge of QED pumps and products. State of Florida Landfill Operators Certification required within six (6) months of hire. Certification as an EPG technician required within six (6) months of hire.

Job Competencies: Knowledge of electrical panels, hydraulic, grinding & pneumatic pumps, compressors and instrumentation. Knowledge of gas principals and applications. Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D; Knowledge of remote data collection systems and applications; and operation of basic surveying equipment. Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations and ordinances relating to solid waste facilities; Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment common to construction; Knowledge of construction plans and specifications; Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word & Excel; communication skills both written and verbal.

Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

Pay: $20.41 - $27.92
