Exercise Physiologist – Springfield Cardiac Rehabilitation Job Summary In collaboration with the cardiopulmonary team, the Exercise Physiologist II is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the exercise component of the cardiac rehabilitation program, reviewing patient history, presenting educational lectures, and performing exercise prescriptions. The role monitors patient response to therapy, recommends modifications, and serves as a preceptor to new team members. Essential Functions Review medical history, nursing intake, and exercise history/ETT before goal‑setting sessions. Become familiar with patient profiles, emphasizing musculoskeletal and cardiovascular histories. Calculate target heart rate range and risk stratification class when appropriate, prior to the six‑minute walk test. Educate patients on self‑monitoring of target heart rate (THR) and rate of perceived exertion (RPE). Write exercise prescriptions for the clinic based on results. Document patient response to exercise, heart rate, ECG rhythm, and any symptoms. Perform the six‑minute walk test or sub‑maximal exercise tolerance test during initial evaluation and discharge, and document findings. Provide patients with home exercise guidelines. Document on the Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP) every 30 days; reassess exercise goals, response to exercise, discharge planning, and ongoing patient education. Act as site supervisor for the Clinic Student University Internship program. Education Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology (required). Master’s Degree in Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology (preferred). Required Licensing & Certifications BLS Basic Life Support, ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire; must be obtained prior to direct patient care; ACLS or PALS required based on specialty). Clinical specialty certification from an accredited organization such as ACSM or ASEP (preferred). Experience Minimum 2+ years of experience in adult fitness and/or cardiac rehabilitation programs (preferred).
