Maintenance Shop Lead Mechanic

The heavy equipment lead mechanic is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of various heavy equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, off-road rock trucks, and rollers. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues, and extensive knowledge in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities include leading a team of mechanics in performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment to ensure they are functioning optimally, providing training and guidance to junior mechanics on maintenance procedures and corrective measures, troubleshooting and diagnosing complex issues using diagnostic tools and equipment, implementing preventative maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of equipment, keeping detailed records of maintenance and repair orders, maintaining a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and procedures, communicating with management to provide updates on equipment status and maintenance needs, managing inventory of spare parts and equipment, and staying current on industry trends and advancements in heavy equipment technology.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent education required, completion of a certified technical school program in heavy equipment maintenance or related field (preferred), 5 years of experience working in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with at least 2 years in a leadership role (preferred), proficiency in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, strong communication and leadership skills, ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues, excellent organizational and time-management skills, and basic computer skills, including knowledge of maintenance software programs.

Physical requirements include the ability to stand, sit, or kneel for extended periods of time, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and exposure to noise and vibration from equipment.

Other requirements include a valid driver's license and must provide own tools.

Schedule: Fulltime Monday-Friday 6:30AM – 3:00PM (may require extended hrs. when needed) Weekends (as needed).
