Environmental Scientist/Geologist I

Overview The Junior Environmental Scientist/Geologist will support fieldwork at locations around the United States, learning and applying the latest technologies to conduct field investigations and remediate contaminated sites. IMPORTANT: FPM Remediations, Inc. is an 8(a) HUBZone business certified by the Small Business Administration (SBA). FPMR employees who live in a HUBZone may be eligible to receive additional earnings paid on a bi‑weekly basis. These additional earnings will be paid following verification and provision of supporting documents. The HUBZone earnings will continue to be paid if residency in a HUBZone is maintained. Primary Responsibilities Collect soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment, and air samples. Complete daily field reports. Package and ship samples to laboratories for analysis. Maintain, calibrate, and operate field instruments. Oversee and monitor the work of subcontractors including drill rig crews, surveyors, construction crews, and remediation work with health and safety air monitoring. Observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff. Support preparation of technical reports, including importing electronic laboratory data reports into FPM's and clients' data management systems to evaluate data quality and usability. Prepare written reports of field activities, observations, and findings and prepare graphics and figures of results. Supervisory Responsibilities There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with the position. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree in environmental science and/or environmental engineering, with a preferred focus on geology, and coursework in chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to travel. Ability to participate in safety training and follow company safety standards. Strong technical writing skills. Desire to work as part of a team. Attention to detail. Ability to analyze chemistry and environmental data. Effective communication and problem‑solving skills. Ability to adapt to changing situations. GIS experience is a plus. Experience with Microsoft Office applications with extensive experience in Excel is preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations None required. Security Clearance Must be able to successfully complete a U.S. government administered investigation. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Travel Extensive travel to field sites required > 80% travel initially. Upwards of 40‑60% travel after gaining appropriate level of field experience. Fieldwork involves performing physically demanding tasks and working 10‑hour days (typically five (5) 10‑hour days per week), potentially in adverse field conditions (cold, hot, high wind, dusty environment, rough terrain) in remote locations.
