Laundry Supervisor

Summary The position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) - Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - VISN 2 - Textile Care Facility at the VA New York Harbor Health Care System in the Environmental Management Service (EMS). The primary purpose of the position is to have incumbent supervise the activities of the Laundry Workers and Laundry Machine Operators that are engaged in the Textile Care services of the hospital. Qualifications To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required - but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element - which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties Typical work direction duties include but not limited to: 1 Assign - direct - evaluate subordinate work performance and review the work of Laundry Workers via verbal or written communication 2 Plan - schedule - and coordinate work operations such as but not limited to: cleaning and loading laundry 3 Observe work in progress and solve problems related to the work supervised investigate work related problems and determine causes develop and implement corrective actions within incumbents delegated authority to resolve work problems 4 Report possible or actual work delays to higher level supervisors and inspect completed work for quality and work order requirements As a Laundry Worker Supervisor - incumbent assist the Laundry Operations Specialist in planning - developing - implementing - and evaluating the Facility Textile Care Management program as it relates to the assigned unit and/or T&L Incumbent assists in the justification for staffing - supplies and equipment - establishing and implementing on the job instruction and safety program - schedules - standards and performance requirements Incumbent must follow guidelines including Federal - state and local environmental statutes - regulatory interpretations - Executive Orders - and VA directives and policies Adhere to work priorities resources - and detailed work plans established by higher level supervisors Plan - organize - schedule - assigns - and supervise - journey-level laundry workers and CWT (Compensatory Work Therapy) Supports the staff in Textile Care maintenance and proper execution of linen delivery within onsite and offsite facilitates attached to Environmental Management Service coverage Incumbent develops a week-to-week plan for the use of workers - equipment - work area - etc. - to ensure daily and timely work tasks/assignments are completed Incumbent also ensures deadlines - priorities - work plans - and assignments are met based on work schedules - methods - and policies set by higher level supervisors Professional knowledge of supervision - principles - practices - and skills necessary to brief EMS management concerning issues - and to conduct a wide variety of operations and procedures - such as but not limited to: Incumbent track and report progress on work assignments and request authority to adjust worker assignments Incumbents recommends changes to schedules - priorities - etc. - as necessary and make minor deviations in procedures to overcome day-to-day work problems such as unplanned absences - equipment failure - etc. inform higher level supervisors of the need and estimate labor and other resources Develops and implements procedures and work practices for identifying - reporting - repairing and inspecting defects and/or deficiencies at facilities such as but not limited to: equipment defects and process deficiencies that may be identified in the day to day work procedures Coordinates projects with EMS staff and other hospital staff and determine the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects Projects may include but are not limited to: cleaning and reorganizing of spaces that ensure adequate workflow and promote the utmost efficiency In addition - coordinate work with supporting or relating work functions controlled by other supervisors Plans out on the job instruction collaborating with Training Specialist and/or Assistant Chief The work is required to be in all areas of the Medical Center on and offsite areas maintained by Environmental Services normally work is inside with adequate light and ventilation Schedules may vary to allow incumbent to observe employee performance for all tours of duty within Environmental Management Service Make daily inspections of all assigned work areas evaluating compliance to work schedules and work progress - reviews established textile care procedures - control of supplies - condition and use of equipment care - safety - work order requirements and follow-up - and progress of individual employees Incumbent provides subordinate workers guidance and assistance with problems On occasion - incumbent may be required to assist in actual performance of textile care duties Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 7:00am - 3:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Supervisor/PD11879A Physical Requirements: Most tasks require varying degrees of muscular effort and hand-to-eye coordination to assure safe and efficient use of equipment and supplies Work requires frequent bending or stooping - prolonged walking - standing - working in cramped positions and climbing Work requires frequent lifting and moving heavy items weighing 40 to 50 pounds Occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds Work requires visual acuity to assure completion of tasks in acceptably clean and aseptic manner. #J-18808-Ljbffr
