Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Office of Training and Development, located in: Harpers Ferry, WV Front Royal, VA Charleston, SC Glynco, GA Los Indios, TX El Paso, TX Artesia, NM Location Preference: You may select ONE location where you would be willing to work. This announcement has been amended on 07/23/2026 to extend the closing date to 07/31/2026. Duties In this position you will serve as a Mission Support Specialist (Generalist) and plan and carry out a wide variety of mission support activities related to the missions and functions of the assigned Academy/Division within the Office of Training and Development (OTD). This position starts at a salary of $50,460.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $80,243.00 (GS-09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $80,243 (GS-9 Step 10). Major Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to: Executing timekeeping functions to include reviewing, amending and certifying work schedules to ensure the accurate submission of timecards. Monitoring incoming and outgoing correspondence, suspense, dates and reports for management. Assisting with managing the academy/division property program to include ordering, receiving, inventorying, transferring, and excessing property. Assisting with overseeing the lost, stolen, destroyed, or missing property program and assists management by performing audits and preparing, processing or extracting reports. Conducting local records management and utilizes various databases and automated systems to prepare various property, supply, budget and other mission and administrative support reports. Salary: Salary listed reflects the rest of U.S. scale and, if applicable, will be adjusted to meet the locality pay or cost of living expenses of the duty location upon selection. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Collecting, assembling, and preparing various administrative reports. Preparing, organizing, and facilitating logistics for sizeable events and ceremonies. Coordinating with personnel at all levels of an organization to ensure that program requirements and organizational objectives are met. Apply accepted criteria, principles, and standard methods to resolve a variety of conventional issues and problems and/or portions of broader studies that require developing detailed procedures and guidelines to supplement existing guidance. Education Substitution: GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required. It is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (i.e., GPA 3.0 or higher of a possible 4.0, excluding pass/fail credits. Pass/fail credits cannot be more than 10% of total credits), or (3) honor society membership. Review Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) to see if you qualify under this provision. Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Conducting research, collecting, assembling, and preparing various administrative reports for management. Preparing briefing materials for the supervisor or other senior management officials. Preparing, organizing, and facilitating logistics for sizeable events and ceremonies. Coordinating with personnel at all levels of an organization to ensure that program requirements and organizational objectives are met. Preparing reports with data from internal data sources such as agency-automated systems for regular and one-time informational needs by senior managers. Education Substitution: GS-09: A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours. Combining Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. More information on this qualification standard is located here. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 07/31/2026. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
