Direct Support Professional

Direct Support Professional – Regular Overview Providing support for individuals with intellectual, developmental disabilities and those facing mental health and substance use challenges. The role involves assisting clients with communication, implementing personal plans, and fostering independence within a community setting. Responsibilities Assist clients in identifying and communicating their needs. Implement services and supports to help achieve goals outlined in each client’s Individual Support Plan. Encourage choice and client control over their environment. Support daily living activities such as food preparation, housecleaning, and medication dispensing. Continually assess functional levels and provide reinforcement, feedback, and encouragement. Transport and accompany clients to day programs, work sites, and community activities. Support clients at vocational sites and assist them in meeting responsibilities. Provide personal care and companionship, building trusting relationships. Qualifications & Experience High school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree in a health‑related field is a plus. Minimum two years of experience serving the target population. Experience with individuals who have developmental and intellectual disabilities is highly desirable. Valid driver’s license and automotive insurance if required for client transportation. Strong empathy, patience, and a calm demeanor in stressful situations. Background check and drug screen clearance. CPR certification, first aid, and NCI/MedTech training are preferred. Physical Requirements Regularly lift 30-70 lbs. and pull 50 lbs. Perform movements such as squatting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, climbing, and stooping. Use hands for handling, feeling, and manipulating objects, tools, or controls. Stand, walk, and perform tasks on hands and knees. Demonstrate CPR proficiency from the floor level. Maintain close, distance, and peripheral vision; ability to talk and hear. Shift Schedule Shift times vary; on‑call coverage may be required.
