Pima County's Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department is hiring a Wastewater Maintenance Specialist II. Essential Functions:

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. • May assist with or lead operational and preventive maintenance of complex heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery utilizing hydraulics and pneumatics of systems involving pneumatic tanks, deep wells, air compressors, pneumatic actuators, wet wells, pumps and booster stations;
• May fabricate, construct, install, repair and align heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery such as deep well pumps, water pump and piping systems, horizontal and vertical drive centrifugal pumps, spherical, thrust, radial and line shaft bearings on pumps and motors utilizing gas and electric welding;
• May assist with or lead critical repairs to complex or conveyance systems, equipment and related features to maintain system integrity and functions in accordance with standards, rules and regulations, particularly those systems or equipment operated under permits or licenses granted by other governmental agencies;
• May assist with or lead repairs or operate specialized equipment such as submersible pumps, speed increasers and decreases, blowers, conveyors, gear boxes, mixing equipment and industrial stationary engines;
• Inspects, services and maintains common and specialized tools, equipment and vehicles used in performance of duties;
• Utilizes and ensures fellow staff utilize standard occupational safety practices and equipment;
• Maintains comprehensive records of work performed, modifications to equipment or systems and related operations logs;
• May prepare periodic and special reports for management on equipment, systems and/or facilities supported or maintained;
• Lifts and moves heavy materials, tools, and supplies;
• Uses and maintains safety and personal protective equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Three years of experience working in industrial mechanical maintenance and repair, pumping systems, electrical systems or power generation engine maintenance. (Work experience limited to automotive, truck or heavy equipment maintenance is not qualifying experience.)

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Two years with Pima County in a Wastewater Maintenance Specialist I or closely related classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

• Minimum three (3) years experience with mechanical equipment, performing repairs and routine maintenance of pumping systems, pumps, gear boxes, plumbing, pipe fitting, and compressor/blower maintenance.
• Minimum three (3) years experience of maintenance repair, preventative maintenance, diagnosing, or trouble-shooting in wastewater, construction, or fabrication.
• Minimum one (1) year experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Minimum one (1) year experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).

Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Licenses and Certificates : Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record.

Physical/Sensory Requirements : Constantly operates and inspects mechanical equipment. Constantly positions self to use, inspect, clean or repair tools and machinery. Constantly observes details at close range. Frequently required to exchange accurate information. Frequently remains in a stationary position. Frequently moves tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Frequently operates a motor vehicle or golf cart safely and legally, in accordance with applicable state and federal transportation laws. Occasionally moves tools and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs. Occasionally ascends/descends machinery and equipment to repair/service. Frequently ascending and descending ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites. Frequently required to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Action Activity - bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, squatting, stooping; Motion Activity - grasping; Hearing Activity - in a noisy areas, on a radio, behind themselves, equipment alarms; Speaking Activity - in person, on the phone, on the radio; Vision - operate a motor vehicle, may be required to get a CDL, operate a forklift/power industrial equipment, distinguish colors, have depth perception and peripheral vision.

Working Conditions : Some positions may be required to go on an on-call rotation. Constantly exposed to loud noise levels. Constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to mechanical oils, vibration and risk of electrical shock. Working with or in the presence of obnoxious odors. Working with noxious or potentially hazardous chemicals, compounds or products. Constantly exposed to extreme heat. Occasionally confine space entry. Employees may be exposed to various weather conditions.
