Municipal Finance Consultant (12-Month Consulting Engagement)
Our client is seeking an experienced Municipal Finance Consultant to support a New Jersey municipality through a 12-month consulting engagement. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned municipal finance professional with extensive knowledge of New Jersey municipal finance laws, budgeting, and governmental accounting to make an immediate impact while working remotely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and administration of the annual municipal budget.
- Support the preparation of Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
- Oversee general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations.
- Strengthen and maintain internal controls.
- Prepare financial reports for municipal leadership and governing bodies.
- Coordinate audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.
- Monitor municipal revenues and expenditures.
- Assist with financial forecasting and long-term fiscal planning.
- Ensure compliance with New Jersey municipal finance regulations and reporting requirements.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance financial operations.
- Support special finance initiatives and strategic projects.
- Present financial information during occasional Board, Council, and committee meetings.
Qualifications:
- Previous finance leadership experience within a New Jersey municipality.
- Extensive knowledge of New Jersey municipal finance laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Experience preparing municipal budgets and Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
- Strong background in governmental accounting, financial reporting, and audit support.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote consulting environment.
