Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of the phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position requires a professional who can effectively manage multiple tasks while providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and follow physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Ensure accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature.
• Label specimens accurately and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
• Primarily work with adults and geriatric patients.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a phlebotomist
• Experience with pediatric and geriatric draws, including heel sticks on babies
• Experience with processing specimens after drawing
• Ability to work independently
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Driver's License
• Reliable means of transportation

Work Environment

The phlebotomist will travel to various sites withing the Chicagoland area. Training will take place during the first two weeks of employment. A schedule will be provided 1-2 weeks in advance, with hours working an 8 hour shift Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am-9pm, and rotating Saturdays from 8am-5pm. When scheduled to work a Saturday shift, a day off will be provided during the week. Saturday shifts occur roughly once a month.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tinley Park, IL.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Tinley Park,IL.
