Position Summary:
The Patient Services Representative (PSR) performs intake, electronic patient management entry and personal and medical history data verification duties associated with the delivery of primary and specialized health care services. Patient Services Representatives are responsible for assisting providers, clinical and administrative staff services. The PSR is the point of first contact with patients or visitors. Consequently, the PSR directs movement through the system by providing appropriate information about patients and visitors. The PSR is required to project a warm, knowledgeable, courteous, and professional customer service-oriented attitude consistently. The PSR position requires a high degree of patience and diplomacy. The PSR must negotiate between the rigors of high professional standards, time constraints and the temperaments of ill patients and a sometimes-anxious family of caregivers. The PSR may be assigned to one of several departments or sites. The Practice Administrator for the respective Division supervises the PSR position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists patients upon contact with the Center
- Greets patients and determines needs and/or service requirements.
- Provides information and instruction related to service delivery process.
- Performs intake by conducting interview and gathers any required documents for completion of the intake process
2. Reviews and / verifies completed forms for accuracy and clarity.
3. Performs Clerical Duties
- Records basic information into daily log; or enters information into electronic patient management system;
- Collects patient fees as prescribed and completed receipts;
- Closes out daily manual and/or electronic logs;
- Accurately accounts for petty cash fund with receipts;
- Obtains information for third party billing;
- Answers telephones and handles questions and inquiries;
- Notifies provider staff of emergencies or situations requiring immediate attention;
- Manages paper and electronic patient management system/files and returns them to designated locations
- Monitors patient waiting time against appointment and arrival times to ensure quality and timely service delivery;
- Provides appointment reminder calls and alerts patients of anticipated appointment time if they have not arrived;
- Assist patient flow by alerting centralized scheduling and / or Site Manager in availability of open encounter slots for unscheduled patients;
- Alerts security officer or supervisor, or both of escalating situations, on site, or of combative persons who appear to represent a potential physical or disruptive threat;
- A CRITICAL job responsibility requires incumbent to foster and maintain a pleasant, friendly demeanor under high stress and combative situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED required.
2. One year of experience in the medical field is required.
3. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
4. Must have basic computer skills.
5. Ability to type 40-60 wpm.
