Registered Nurse - Emergency Room

This position is for the Emergency Room. Shift consists of 12-hour nights with every other weekend required. All major cases are transported to larger facilities. The team includes charge nurses and nursing aides, as census and staffing dictates. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4. Self-scheduling is available for nurses to make themselves "available" for extra shifts and trades with staff. Floating may occur to other facilities as needed, though mid-shift floats are rare. Common diagnoses include chest pain, exacerbations of chronic diseases, and mental health holds. Behavioral health patients are managed by designated mental health nurses. All nursing activities are documented using an electronic medical record system. Weekend and holiday shifts rotate in with core staff members. Scrub colors are navy, and undergarments must also be navy, white, or black. Additional support services such as pharmacy and respiratory therapy are available 24/7. Extra shifts may also be available on request. This role includes working alongside hospitalists and intensivists who are in-house. General orientation to the floor will be provided with a preceptor for a few days. Candidates must complete a dyslexia exam prior to signing. Failure of the exam after two attempts may result in disqualification from future opportunities.
