POSITION PROFILEDuchesne County is seeking a dependable, motivated, and customer-service-oriented individual to join our Information Technology Department. This position may be filled at the Specialist in Training, IT Specialist I, IT Specialist II, or IT Specialist III level, depending upon the selected applicant's qualifications.Under the direction of the IT Director, IT Specialists provide technical support and help ensure the operational readiness of IT systems throughout Duchesne County departments. Responsibilities range from entry-level help desk support to advanced troubleshooting, infrastructure administration, user training, and technical project support, depending on the employee's experience and certification level.The successful candidate will be expected to perform assigned duties in a timely, professional, and courteous manner, maintain confidentiality, follow County procedures, and appropriately escalate complex technical issues. Occasional evening, weekend, or after-hours work may be required based on operational or emergency needs.CompensationCompensation will be determined based on the qualifications of the selected applicant:IT Specialist III: $29.36–$31.93 per hourIT Specialist II: $26.78–$29.36 per hourIT Specialist I: $22.66–$26.78 per hourSpecialist in Training: $19.06–$22.66 per hourESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSEssential duties and responsibilities may include:Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, phones, applications, and network connectivity.Troubleshoot hardware, software, system, and connectivity issues.Maintain IT asset inventory and assist with technology lifecycle planning.Assist with system updates, patching, and backups.Document work accurately within the IT ticketing system and communicate status updates to users and staff.Work with County employees, departments, and vendors to identify and resolve technical issues.Assist with equipment deployments, imaging, configurations, and system setup.Perform user account administration within Active Directory and Google Workspace.Support County technology resources while following established security practices, policies, and procedures.Perform other related IT duties and technical projects as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSSpecialist in Training Education: High school diploma or equivalent.Experience: No previous IT experience required.Certification: Must be enrolled in CompTIA A+, Microsoft SC-900, Google IT Support Professional, or an equivalent certification course and successfully complete the certification within 12 months of hire.Applicants should possess basic computer literacy, strong customer service and communication skills, the ability to learn new software and technology, and a demonstrated interest in technology and professional growth. This is a developmental position designed to progress toward IT Specialist I through structured training and hands-on experience.IT Specialist I Certification: Must possess at least one entry-level IT certification, such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Google IT Support Professional, Microsoft SC-900, or equivalent.Experience: A minimum of one year of help desk or technical support experience is preferred.Applicants should have basic hardware and software troubleshooting abilities and working knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office/365, Google Workspace, Active Directory user account management, and basic network troubleshooting.IT Specialist II Certification: Must possess at least two industry certifications, including one entry-level certification and one intermediate or specialty certification, such as Security+, Cloud+, VMware VCTA, ITIL, or equivalent.Experience: Minimum of two years of progressively responsible IT support experience.Education: Associate degree or technical training in Information Technology is preferred.Applicants should possess advanced troubleshooting skills; experience with Active Directory and Group Policy administration; basic scripting or automation; knowledge of VLANs, DHCP, and DNS; experience supporting business applications; and an understanding of information security best practices.IT Specialist III Certification: Must possess multiple industry certifications, including two entry-level or foundational certifications, one intermediate or specialty certification, and one advanced role-aligned certification.Advanced certifications may include VMware VCP-DCV, Cisco CCNP, CompTIA CySA+, PenTest+, SecAI+, CASP+ (SecurityX), Veeam VMCE, or equivalent.Experience: Minimum of five years of progressively responsible IT support or administration experience, including project leadership and experience serving as a technical escalation point.Education: Associate degree required. A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.Applicants should possess advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis abilities across servers, networks, storage, security, virtualization, and business applications. Candidates should also have experience administering core infrastructure, implementing technical projects, mentoring staff, applying information security best practices, and utilizing scripting and automation.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSApplicants must:Possess and maintain a current, valid Utah Driver's License.Successfully pass required background checks and drug testing.Be eligible for and maintain any clearance, authorization, or system access required to perform assigned duties, including access to sensitive, secure, or criminal justice information systems when applicable.Obtain and maintain certifications required for their assigned classification.Maintain confidentiality and appropriately safeguard County data and systems.Be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.Be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.Duchesne County reserves the right to determine the appropriate classification level based upon the selected candidate's education, experience, certifications, and demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.
