Job Summary The Inpatient Financial Counseling Specialist performs benefit education and validation for hospital patients, handles face‑to‑face review of benefits, authorizes coverage, and collects inpatient, observation, and outpatient liabilities. The role requires timely verification of patient responsibilities, post‑discharge communications, and adherence to regulatory compliance while supporting the organization’s revenue cycle goals. Collect payments from patients during inpatient stays and facilitate post‑discharge billing communication. Make a minimum of three room visits per day to assess patient liability and provide assistance. Document all accounts with patient liability and record collection attempts in the revenue cycle system. Conduct follow‑up phone calls to patients who cannot pay, and send letters detailing estimated liabilities and payment options. Grant patients consent to treat, observation, and Medicare informational forms when required. Assist insurance eligibility specialists in verifying insurance coverage, Medicaid, and charity processing. Run daily census reports to identify patients with potential eligibility issues. Organize outpatient orders and manage future and current date service requests using revenue cycle queues. Support pre‑registration and registration tasks, ensuring accurate registration at time of service. Identify missed collection opportunities and recommend process improvements. Collaborate with other departments to validate payor source and authorization status for inpatient and outpatient services. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) required within six months of hire (company paid). Minimum 1 year of customer service experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for face‑to‑face patient interactions. Demonstrated openness to innovation, including use of emerging technology such as AI for process improvement. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Knowledge of insurance eligibility, Medicaid, and charity assistance processes preferred.
