Laboratory Technician Senior (Part-time): Haynesville Correctional Center

Laboratory Technician Senior (Part-time) Location: Haynesville Correctional Center, Richmond County, Virginia. Agency: Dept of Corr – Central Admin. Pay: $19.89 – $31.00/hour. Job Duties: Position provides laboratory support in the Medical Department at a Major Correctional Center. Performs laboratory tests including blood counts, sodium and potassium analysis, serum chemistries, urinalysis, and other procedures. Conducts control-value testing on equipment, updates charts and records, schedules appointments, and maintains documentation in appropriate logs and files. Provides orientation to medical staff and inmates and maintains lab supplies. Assists the Medical Unit and may be assigned to other duties or locations as needed to meet clinical and administrative demands. This wage position is limited to 1,500 hours per agency during the 12‑month period of May 1 to April 30, with a maximum average of 29 hours per week over the 12‑month period. No state benefits are offered. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy skills, including venipuncture. Knowledge of microbiology and laboratory science. Ability to operate and maintain point‑of‑care equipment. Working knowledge of record‑keeping principles, practices, and techniques. Skill in recording and reporting test results. Proficiency in operating standard laboratory equipment. Proficiency in computer use and related hardware, applications, and software, including the Internet and Microsoft Office or similar productivity software, and automated databases. Ability to accurately assess situations, work independently, and prioritize assignments. Ability to follow established laboratory procedures and meet all deadlines. Additional Considerations Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment.
