Associate Veterinarian – South Hillsdale Animal Hospital Position Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Associate Veterinarian to join our South Hillsdale Animal Hospital team, located in San Mateo, CA. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality veterinary care, communicate effectively with clients, and collaborate closely with our experienced veterinary and support staff. What We Offer Competitive salary: $150,000–$200,000 (negotiable based on experience) Production-based bonus structure No negative accrual and no non‑compete Up to $100k sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance Paid time off and holidays Flexible scheduling with work–life balance Continuing education reimbursement and time off for CE & license fees Full benefits package: health, dental, vision, disability, liability insurance, and 401(k) with company contribution Employee pet‑care discounts Emotional wellbeing support (Calm app, 24/7 EAP) Key Responsibilities Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Client communication and education Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery Maintain accurate medical records Pharmacy duties: prescribing medication and following controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operation from intake to discharge Attend daily rounds to ensure high standards Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels Perform additional duties as assigned by management Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university Current State Veterinary License DEA registration obtained and maintained Minimum 1 year of experience in a veterinary practice Strong diagnostic, clinical, surgical, and dental skills Team‑oriented work style and excellent interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Clinical knowledge and skill in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological examinations and appropriate treatment prescription Problem‑solving and management of a high‑quality veterinary hospital Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff Professionalism and openness to constructive feedback Business acumen: understanding of management and finances of a veterinary hospital Knowledge of ethical principles guiding patient care Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of others’ learning Pay Range: $150,000 – $200,000 USD PetVet is an equal opportunity employer.
