Human Resources Generalist

Duke's is now looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Elgin, IL! In this role, you will support the full employee lifecycle delivering hands‑on HR support. Payroll is a secondary function of this role and you will gain exposure to our weekly payroll process through structured training, shadowing, and progressive ownership of select tasks such as timecard reviews, audits, reporting, and issue resolution. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is detail‑driven, curious, and interested in building payroll knowledge while strengthening core HR operations. This is an onsite role, not hybrid or remote. You will: Manage all employee offboarding and termination activities Assist with benefits administration, including open enrollment and qualifying life events Administer employee leaves, including FMLA, STD, LTD, and personal leaves of absence Assist in scheduling and supporting employee drug testing Respond to confidential employee inquiries related to benefits, payroll, and workplace issues Assist with regulatory inquiries and documentation for DOL, EEOC, and OSHA matters Support monthly HR initiatives to increase employee engagement Help plan and facilitate annual employee events Serve as secondary support for weekly payroll processing for 500 employees nationwide, including certified payroll reporting and audits Prepare reports for management, audits, financial review, and workforce planning Perform other duties as assigned Apply now if you: Have an associate's or bachelor's degree in related field, preferred Have at least five years of related work experience, required Have excellent customer service experience for both internal and external customers Have excellent attention to detail with strong follow‑up skills Have excellent knowledge of the HR core functions following the employee life cycle from start date up through termination date, required Have excellent organization and time management skills Have strong oral and written communication skills Have strong ability to receive and process information in a professional, sensitive, confidential, and timely manner Have strong computer skills including accurate data entry, MS Office (particularly Excel and spreadsheets), UKG Ready, ADP Workforce Now, and/or other HR, ATS, ERP systems Are willing and able to work overtime or weekends as necessary Why Duke's?
