Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN General)

Administers nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. Responsibilities include administering oxygen, applying sterile dressings, inserting catheters, reinserting gastrostomy tubes, suctioning, and irrigating wounds. Collects specimens and performs dialysis treatments while monitoring patients during procedures. Assists physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests. Provides first aid and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergencies. Administers controlled drugs and provides medication instructions to patients. Maintains medication accountability records by charting patient records, preparing and counting medication, and maintaining medication stock. Observes, documents, and reports patient conditions, including reactions and progress. Prepares and maintains related reports and records, such as incident reports and medication logs. Provides general nursing care, takes vital signs, and assists with personal grooming and daily living activities. Administers topical ointments and solutions and assists with recreational activities. Offers direction, orientation, and training to lower-level direct care staff. Attends and participates in various meetings, including staff conferences and nursing meetings. Orders medication and medical supplies, cleans the nursing station, and performs clerical tasks as needed. Possesses knowledge of skilled nursing procedures, pharmacology, patient care, first aid, CPR, and HIPAA regulations. Skilled in the use of medical equipment, including respiratory devices and dialysis machines. Demonstrates the ability to recognize unusual conditions and take appropriate action while developing rapport with patients. Able to understand manuals and verbal instructions associated with practical nursing. Exhibits dexterity to administer injections and perform medical treatments.
