Daily Duties:

Performs a complete visual assessment of the patient’s general condition and takes vital signs and documents into the appropriate EMR of each patient and informs ordering physician of patient concerns.

Administers pre-medication, Rheumatology medication, and injections in compliance with nursing standards and clinic guidelines. Must maintain a general knowledge of all medication administered such as side effects and adverse reactions and document in appropriate EMR/MAR of each patient’s visit of medication administered.

Retrieve phone messages from voicemail and return all calls including documenting into electronic medical record for each patient.

Follow up with any patient who misses an infusion appointment.

Prioritize and organize physician orders for new starts.

Adheres to infection control and safety guidelines in compliance with policy. Maintains infusion clinical area for cleanliness, necessary supplies and materials, and knows proper procedure for ordering supplies.

Sanitize and clean infusion area including equipment prior to leaving each day.

Additional Duties as Needed:

Re-stock nurses supply area.

Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.

Work as a team player with staff.

Travel to other office locations as needed.

Work with specialty pharmacies to coordinate patient delivery of medication to coincide with their appointment.

Work with the billing team to understand how insurance payers cover infusion therapy and ways to navigate the workflow.

Perform other duties assigned by Practice Manager, Nursing Director, or Physician and/or Physician Assistant.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years’ experience as a RN or LVN in an infusion center, clinic, or hospital.

Requirements:

RN or LVN license in good standing with Texas Board of Nursing.

Current BLS.

Must be able to successfully start an IV without multiple attempts.

Knowledge/Skills:

Experience in accessing ports and strong knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile field.

Must be comfortable working alongside other nurses and medical assistants in the infusion setting.

Knowledge of clinic policies related to standard pharmaceutical and rheumatology practices.

Strong utilization of critical thinking skills and the ability to apply to direct patient care.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients, colleagues and healthcare providers.

Excellent problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage a high volume of patients in clinic and by phone utilizing efficient time management.

Ability to organize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.

Bilingual Spanish a plus.
