General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors are responsible for opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, and maintaining a friendly, easy-to-shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times. Area Supervisors also execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed. Essential Functions Maintaining Safe, Secure Environments Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything they do. Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone. Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership. Responsible for building security including entrance/exit control, Electronic Article Surveillance daily function checks, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area. Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits. Responsible for customer safety, including accident prevention, accident reporting and emergency procedures. Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested. Customer Service Treat all Customers, Associates, and other leaders with respect. Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize Associates using Company recognition programs. Personal and Store Brand Represent and support the Company brand at all times. Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with Company Dress Code. Ensure all Associates adhere to the Dress Code at all times. Keep all areas of the Store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard. General Merchandising Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per best practice. Responsible for receiving merchandise truck when needed. Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency. Handle receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies, special deliveries). Maintain cleanliness and organization of all Stockrooms. Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor after processing. Ensure back‑stock is secured, processed, and merchandised per Company policy. Reduce loss due to damage and ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area. Handle floor moves and signage, including promotional signing, and re‑wraps as needed. Loss Prevention Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a large Customer service presence on the sales floor. Engage Customers and Associates and maintain heightened Loss Prevention awareness. Safeguard confidential information, cash and credit card information, and merchandise. Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system. Conduct Code 50 package inspections. Execute Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches. Front End Supervision and Operations Ensure Associates execute to Company standards at the Front End. Maintain pace, energy and presence at the Front End, managing the line to expedite customer wait time. Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front End procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards. Control Retail Associates’ break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks. Ensure all equipment works properly and maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front End area. Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security tagged and ticketed. Teach all Associates the Scan and Bag best practice. Ensure salability of merchandise on the Front End, aisle tables, and specialty racks. Fitting Rooms Maintain and keep Fitting Rooms clean. Ensure all Fitting Room garment tags are audited and accounted for per Company policy. Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day; all merchandise returned to the sales floor must be ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security tagged as needed. Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager Ensure Cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted per Company policy. Control Front End when needed and adhere to policies regarding refunds, Associate purchase approvals, securing tills and cash in safe, register pay‑outs/ins, void approvals, register media and break schedules. Handle payroll administration, including daily punch edits, Associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and Payroll reporting as needed. Perform other duties as assigned by Store Manager. Fluency in English. Prior Customer Service and supervisory experience preferred. Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Physical Requirements / ADA Use all Store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC. Stand, walk, and move around the Store for up to 100% of working time. Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop. Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs. Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies. Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 lbs. Compensation and Benefits The base pay range for this role is $19.50–$20.00 per hour. Other rewards vary by position and location. Benefits offered to all Associates include accident, critical illness, vision, auto, home, and pet insurance programs; associate discount; identity protection; associate purchase program; benefit hub discount mall; employee assistance program; commuter benefits; 401K; employee stock purchase program; Ross Cares Fund; college discounts; sick pay (where legally required); and referral bonuses. Full‑time Associates (Retail Associate, Area Supervisor, Assistant Store Manager, and Store Manager) are eligible for extended benefits including medical/dental/vision health insurance, legal insurance, vacation buy, flexible spending account, health savings account, life/ADD insurance, long‑term disability, enhanced maternity and parental leave benefit, vacation pay accrued at a rate of 10 days per year after eligibility, and 9 personal and company holidays.
