Police Officer

Role Description This full-time, on-site Police Officer role is based in Dacono, CO. Police Officers serve the community by enforcing state and local laws, protecting life and property, and providing professional, community-focused service. Officers respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, conduct thorough investigations from initiation to case disposition, and complete accurate reports in a timely manner. Additional responsibilities include traffic enforcement, patrolling assigned areas, interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects, testifying in court, and engaging with the community to deliver high-quality service consistent with the department's values of Responsiveness, Diligence, and Resoluteness. This position requires integrity, strong decision-making skills, and the ability to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Compensation and Benefits As of January 2026, the compensation range is a 5-step plan, from entry-level at $88,088 to top-level at $110,164 annually. Lateral Officers: Prior law enforcement experience is considered when determining compensation within the 5-step plan. Qualifications Must be 21 years of age or older High school diploma or GED required Current Colorado P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Testing) Basic Peace Officer Certification, or eligibility for certification through out‑of‑state reciprocity Valid Colorado driver's license with an acceptable driving record (or ability to obtain one prior to appointment) Strong knowledge of Colorado laws, criminal and traffic statutes, and law enforcement procedures Ability to enforce Colorado Revised Statutes and local ordinances Proficiency in conducting criminal investigations and evidence processing Ability to safely operate a patrol vehicle and maintain proficiency with firearms, defensive tactics, and other police equipment Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with the community Excellent conflict‑resolution skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a collaborative team Physical fitness and the ability to handle stressful situations Experience in community service, public relations, social work, or related fields is beneficial Ability to testify in municipal, county, and state courts, as well as DMV hearings Equal Employment Opportunity The City of Dacono is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, sex, color, religion, age, national origin, or disability.
