The Senior Machine Technician (SMT) is responsible for determining and running their assigned machinery to its highest efficiency.  Machine Technicians will organize, track and schedule preventative maintenance on their specified group of machines. Machine Technicians will also drive the department’s process improvement initiatives and assign departmental duties as appropriate. In addition, the MT will determine the most efficient methods for utilizing their assigned machinery and strive to make their machinery efficient and safe.

 

Essential Functions:

• Create, review, and implement Standard Operating Procedures for specified production machines
• Organize/ Schedule weekly and monthly PM’s
• Track weekly and monthly maintenance needs, cleaning needs, and safety improvements
• Track compliance with safety items (Lock out/tag out, chemical spills, fire training, etc.)
• Serve as point of contact and, when necessary, coordinate vendor support (KERN, Pitney Bowes, KR, etc.)
• Create turnover reports
• Attend Technician Meetings as related to processes and projects.
• Initiate special projects and assign duties as needed
• Oversee training needs for the specific machine areas
• Determine future initiatives and present best options to upper management.
• Increase production results by improving efficiency, reducing cost, and focusing on quality.
• Provides technical assistance in production and/or quality problems involving materials, processes, product, and equipment.
• Gathers and analyzes equipment, processes, and material data to identify improvement opportunities and involve operators.
• Champion continuous improvement efforts, including but not limited to:
  • Train Operators and Technicians, on best practices and problem-solving methodologies
  • Keep Supervision adequately and accurately informed of improvement efforts.
  • Participates and facilitates projects
• Comply with company policies and procedures.
• Promotes company values and culture. 

Essential Skills:

• Strong working knowledge of equipment area, including but not limited to:

KERN 3500’s
KERN 2600’s
Offline Bindery

• Ability to solve complex equipment challenges
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement Preventative Maintenance plans
• Must be a self-starter, motivator, with strong organizational, interpersonal, and consultative skills.
• Must demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills.
• Must be a logical thinker capable of making decisions.
• Excellent communication – oral, written, and presentation skills.  
• Ability to present ideas effectively.
• Ability to maintain order in an environment of ever-changing priorities.
• Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining attention to detail 
• Solid mechanical aptitude
• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
• The ability to work directly with Machine Operators.
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance and regulations.
• Physical ability to do work requiring frequent bending and stooping.
• Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently
