General Function:

The Senior Semiconductor Equipment Engineering Technician delivers advanced electro-mechanical maintenance and engineering support for semiconductor manufacturing equipment operating in a Class 100 cleanroom. This role is responsible for complex troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment upgrades, and reliability improvements across electrical, mechanical, vacuum, robotic, and software-driven systems.

Partnering closely with Equipment Engineering, Production, technical staff, maintenance teams, and equipment vendors, the technician identifies performance issues, recommends and implements system enhancements, develops maintenance standards, and supports equipment installations and retrofits. The Senior Semiconductor Equipment Engineering Technician serves as a key technical expert dedicated to maximizing equipment uptime, operational performance, safety, and long-term reliability.

Job Duties And Responsibilities:

• Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on semiconductor manufacturing and processing equipment across electrical, mechanical, vacuum, robotics, and software-controlled systems.
• Serve as the senior technical escalation resource, guiding technicians through complex or critical equipment issues.
• Diagnose equipment failures using schematics, software logs, manuals, and technical documentation; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate maintenance priorities with Production and Engineering to minimize downtime and ensure production requirements are achieved.
• Recommend and support equipment upgrades, modifications, retrofits, and reliability improvements to enhance capability, uptime, and safety.
• Inspect and maintain key equipment components (motors, drives, belts, filters, vacuum systems, robotics, electrical assemblies) and identify parts requiring replacement before failure.
• Support automated wafer-handling systems and robotics by addressing recurring failures and improving system performance.
• Communicate equipment status, repair progress, risks, and recommendations clearly to supervisors and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with equipment manufacturers and vendors to resolve escalated issues and obtain specialized support.
• Develop, update, and maintain preventive-maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, work instructions, and schematics.
• Manage the spare-parts inventory system, including critical-parts lists, specifications, and reorder requirements.
• Prepare reports analyzing downtime, repair history, recurring failures, and equipment reliability trends.
• Support installation, qualification, and acceptance testing of new or modified semiconductor equipment and technologies.
• Promote a proactive, safety-focused, and continuous-improvement culture within equipment maintenance.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment in alignment with cleanroom and safety standards.
• Perform additional engineering-support or technical duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• As a defense contractor we are subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and you must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident (green card holder) to be considered for this position.
• High School diploma or equivalent, with some college experience, associate's degree preferred.
• Must have a strong electro-mechanical background:
• Equipment maintenance
• Electrical knowledge
• Mechanical knowledge
• Computer knowledge (for example, software update, replacing computers or computer components)
• 7-10 years of equipment maintenance experience in semi-conductor manufacturing industry.
• Advanced electro-mechanical knowledge, including experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, vacuum, robotics, and computer-controlled equipment systems.
• Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose complex equipment failures, determine root causes, evaluate alternative solutions, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
• Working knowledge of automated wafer-handling systems, robotics, process-equipment software, and equipment-control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, equipment specifications, and parts documentation.
• Proficiency using hand tools and electronic test equipment, including digital multimeters, power supplies, RF power sources, and related diagnostic equipment.
• Experience coordinating technical escalations and communicating professionally with equipment manufacturers, service providers, and external vendors.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance, share knowledge, and support the development of other equipment technicians.
• Strong documentation skills, including experience preparing maintenance records, procedures, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and equipment-performance reports.
• Experience identifying critical spare parts, developing inventory requirements, and establishing appropriate reorder points.
• Demonstrated commitment to equipment reliability, continuous improvement, workplace safety, and production support.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Production, Engineering, technical staff, vendors, and other maintenance personnel.
• Ability to manage multiple equipment priorities, communicate equipment status clearly, and respond effectively to urgent production needs.
• Previous experience working in a cleanroom environment is strongly preferred.
• Must be willing and able to work with chemicals and follow all chemical-handling, hazardous waste, cleanroom, and safety procedures.
• Must be able to support equipment-maintenance activities throughout the Fab and Test-floor production areas.
• Working computer knowledge, including equipment-software updates and the replacement or troubleshooting of computers and related hardware components.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• Associate's degree or advanced technical certification in electronics, electro-mechanical technology, engineering technology, industrial maintenance, or related discipline.
• Seven or more years of progressive equipment-maintenance or equipment-engineering support experience within semiconductor manufacturing.
• Advanced hands-on experience with photolithography, coating, and developing equipment.
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting wet, dry, turbo, and cryogenic ultra-high-vacuum systems.
• Experience with plasma-assisted reactive magnetron sputtering systems.
• Experience with thermal and electron-beam evaporative thin-film deposition systems.
• Experience supporting automated wafer-handling systems, robotics, programmable controls, and computer-controlled process equipment.
• Demonstrated experience conducting complex equipment troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, and corrective-action activities.
• Experience supporting equipment installations, acceptance testing, qualifications, retrofits, upgrades, and new-technology implementation.
• Experience developing preventive-maintenance programs, technical procedures, troubleshooting guides, schematics, and equipment work instructions.
• Experience analyzing equipment downtime, failure history, maintenance activity, and reliability trends.
• Experience establishing critical-spare-parts requirements, inventory levels, and reorder points.
• Previous experience serving as a senior technical resource, trainer, or mentor for equipment-maintenance personnel.
• Strong working relationships with semiconductor equipment manufacturers, service providers, and specialized technical vendors.
• Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems or other electronic maintenance-tracking and documentation platforms.

Physical Requirements:

• Able to rotate from sitting to standing, lift 40 pounds unassisted, climb a ladder, kneel, squat, use power and hand-tools, gown according to clean room protocol, work in confined spaces.

The salary range for this position is $41.00 to $43.00 per hour
