Vice President of Development (New York City Metropolitan Area)

Vice President, Development

The Authors Guild & Authors Guild Foundation

What if your next role wasn’t just about raising money…

…but about protecting the future of writing itself?

The Authors Guild has been defending writers for over a century. Today, that work sits at the center of some of the biggest questions of our time—AI, free expression, copyright, and who gets to tell stories in the future.

We’re looking for a Vice President, Development to help fuel that work.

This is not a back-office role. This is a front-line, relationship-driven, belief-building role.

What you’ll do

• Build and lead a major gifts strategy that drives real impact
• Partner closely with the CEO, Executive Director, and Board
• Help lead a $20M campaign to protect the future of writing
• Translate complex legal and cultural work into stories donors care about
• Grow a national network of supporters who believe this work matters

Who you are

You’re not just a fundraiser. You’re a connector.

• You build trust quickly and deeply
• You’re calm in complexity and clear in ambiguity
• You know how to move from conversation → conviction → commitment
• You care about mission, not just metrics
• You understand that the best fundraising feels human, not transactional

Why this role

Because this moment matters.

Books are being banned.

AI is rewriting the rules.

Writers are being pushed out of the profession.

And this organization is right in the middle of it.

You’ll help ensure they have the resources—and the relationships—to lead.
