The Safety Manager is responsible for leading the safety program for Telamon's manufacturing facility while supporting a proactive, employee-focused safety culture. This role serves as the primary safety partner to plant leadership, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company standards, and industry best practices while driving continuous improvement in safety performance.

The Safety Manager partners closely with operations, engineering, and leadership to identify and mitigate risk, improve safety systems, and support operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manufacturing Safety Leadership

• Serve as the primary safety resource for manufacturing operations, maintenance, warehouse, and facility personnel.
• Build strong partnerships with facility leadership and partner company to integrate safety into daily operations.
• Conduct routine safety observations, facility inspections, and behavioral safety coaching.
• Identify hazards associated with manufacturing equipment, machinery, automation, material handling, ergonomics, hazardous energy, and employee work practices.
• Provide real-time coaching to employees and supervisors to reinforce safe work behaviors.
• Lead incident response efforts, including investigations, corrective actions, and follow-up.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable environmental, health, and safety standards.
• Develop, implement, and maintain facility safety programs
• Lead regulatory inspections and interface with local agencies as required.
• Maintain required documentation, training records, inspections, and corrective action tracking.
• Perform routine risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).

Incident Investigation & Continuous Improvement

• Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis
• Analyze injury trends, near misses, and leading indicators to identify systemic improvement opportunities.
• Develop corrective and preventive actions that address root causes rather than symptoms.
• Utilize safety metrics and data analytics to prioritize risk reduction initiatives.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, or similar operational excellence principles.

Safety Training & Employee Development

• Develop and deliver engaging safety training programs for manufacturing employees, supervisors, and contractors.
• Coordinate new employee safety orientation
• Coach supervisors on safety leadership, accountability, and effective hazard recognition.
• Reinforce a positive safety culture built on accountability, education, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Human Resources, and Corporate Safety to implement enterprise safety initiatives.
• Support process improvements that reduce operational risk while improving productivity.
• Participate in equipment reviews, process changes, and new product introductions to ensure safety considerations are incorporated.

Managerial Responsibility

• This position currently operates as an individual contributor and has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
• Future leadership responsibilities may be added based on organizational growth and business needs.

Travel/Shift Requirements

• This position requires up to 10% travel nationwide

Physical Demands

• Frequent walking throughout manufacturing, warehouse, and production areas.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Occasional climbing ladders.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.

Skills and Abilities Required

• Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations applicable to manufacturing environments.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing safety principles, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, industrial ergonomics, material handling, and contractor safety.
• Experience conducting Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and incident investigations.
• Excellent coaching, influencing, and relationship-building skills with employees at all organizational levels.
• Ability to influence operational leaders without direct authority.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify systemic safety risks.
• Experience utilizing safety management systems and data analytics to drive continuous improvement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• High degree of accountability, professionalism, and sound judgment.

Education and Experience

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience implementing OSHA compliance programs and leading safety initiatives.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
• Experience developing and delivering safety training.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations applicable to manufacturing operations.

Preferred

• Experience in industrial manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, or similar production environments.
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification.
• CSP (Certified Safety Professional), ASP, OHST, or other recognized safety certification.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
• Construction safety experience
