Transportation Van Driver

Job TitleProvides safe and timely transportation to individuals with disabilities between their residences and day program sites.Essential Job FunctionsEnsures and safeguards Agency program participants' human dignity, rights, and liberties.Adheres to all applicable Regional Transit Authority (GATRA) and Agency regulations, policies and procedures as well as, state and local laws in the operation of vehicles.Maintains consistent and clear communication with the Director of Transportation, Transportation Manager, and other designated staff.Demonstrates basic proficiency with technology, including using text messaging, accessing company email, and completing time clock procedures.Provides safe and timely pick-up and drop-off of specified program participants, following routes, schedules, and procedures authorized by the Director of Transportation.Assists those program participants requiring help entering or leaving the vehicle; escorts participants requiring additional assistance to or from the vehicle.Checks and responds to messages in a timely manner before beginning morning and afternoon routes.Completes and submits all required paperwork including attendance sheets and vehicle checklists.Attends training sessions, staff meetings and related programs, as scheduled.Maintains internal and external cleanliness of vehicle.Ensures that snow and ice has been removed from assigned vehicle after winter storms.Serves as mandated reporter for suspected cases of abuse and/or neglect to Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC).Always maintain safe driving practices, including removal of snow and ice from assigned vehicle during adverse or inclement weather conditions such as rain, snow, or icy roads.Other Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms additional duties, as assigned.CompetenciesAdaptability: Demonstrates flexibility in responding to frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events; balances competing demands; adjusts work methods when needed; supports others in adapting to change, including safely adjusting driving practices during inclement weather conditions.Ethics, Values and Diversity: Promotes an appropriate and effective work environment and strives to ensure that the agency's core values and beliefs are applied during all circumstances; genuinely cares about people; deals effectively with all races, nationalities, cultures, disabilities, ages, lifestyle choices and genders; supports equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all; adheres to and promotes the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); advocates for the rights and interests of individuals with disabilities to maximize their potential in the programs and communities of their choice.Integrity and Trust: Is respectful, truthful, and transparent, keep confidences; takes ownership and responsibility for decisions and outcomes.Problem Solving and Judgment: Probes all useful and constructive sources to find pertinent answers; can analyze issues, identify problems and work toward appropriate solutions; collaborates with others or as part of a team; displays willingness to make decisions; makes timely decisions; exhibits sound and accurate judgment.Oral and Written Communications: Speaks clearly, appropriately, and effectively with a diverse group of individuals; is an active listener and gets clarification when necessary; participates constructively in meetings; is able to write clearly and succinctly; concise communicate in a variety of settings and situations.Preparation, Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesSuccessful completion or drug test/driving record before hiring.No use of drugs including THC (marijuana).High school diploma or equivalent required.Prior experience providing transportation services for individuals with disabilities preferred.Must be able to respond appropriately to auditory stimulus without visual cues.Ability to follow directions and read maps.Must be able to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form with coworkers and supported individuals and read fluently.Valid driver's license in the state of Massachusetts required.Documented physical indicating fitness for job.Successful completion of all state and Agency mandated training that is required upon hire.Supervisory ResponsibilityNo supervisory responsibility.Working Conditions/Physical DemandsAbility to assist adults with disabilities in and out of the vehicle.Ability to physically intervene in instances of extreme behavior that might jeopardize the safety of individuals supported and staff.Ability to perform wheelchair securing protocols should you be wheelchair certified.Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly in varying traffic and weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, ice, and low visibility).
