DEFINITION:

Under close supervision, performs routine, repetitive clerical work involving the processing of documents in a variety of functions; does other related duties as required. NOTE: Incumbents may be required to utilize keyboard equipment to input and/or retrieve information on a computer console, typewriter or other key entry device used by the agency. Keyboarding/typing duties may or may not be assigned, depending on the needs of the employing agency. Incumbents are not expected to perform keyboarding/typing tasks with the speed and accuracy required of a Keyboarding Clerk. EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Reviews, verifies, and processes documents, applications, forms, and reports for accuracy and completeness. Receives, sorts, distributes, and processes incoming and outgoing mail. Maintains files and records using alphabetical, numerical, or other established filing systems. Provides routine information to employees and the public in person and by telephone; refers complex inquiries to appropriate staff. Enters and retrieves information using computer systems and other office equipment. Assists with preparing reports, compiling data, maintaining records, and performing basic arithmetic calculations. Assists with payroll, personnel, scheduling, office supply inventory, and other administrative support functions as assigned. Operates standard office equipment, including copiers, printers, scanners, calculators, fax machines, and other office machines. Performs routine clerical duties in support of various County departments and programs. Learns department-specific procedures and maintains accurate records in accordance with established policies.

LICENSE:

Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of general office procedures, practices, and equipment. Ability to organize and prioritize clerical work while maintaining accuracy. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to maintain organized filing and recordkeeping systems. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public. Ability to operate computers and standard office equipment. Ability to learn department-specific software, policies, and procedures. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. RATE : $16.50 per hour, 35 hours per week EEOC Must be a resident of New Jersey.
