Environmental Health Specialist 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 Fayette County Environmental Health Office – District 4 Public Health 245 Booker Ave, Suite E, Fayetteville, GA 30215 Job Description Under broad supervision, conducts inspections and audits of assigned facilities/sites for compliance with applicable health codes in a Public Health District. Reviews and/or prepares applications, permits and technical reports. Investigates and responds to complaints of potential health hazards and requests for service. Owns assigned tasks and may serve in a lead role. All District 4 Public Health, County BOH employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency and may be called to participate in a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC), or a Point of Distribution site (POD) as part of the job requirements. Job Responsibilities Interprets regulatory issues, technical issues, and analytical data to document compliance Investigates complaints, provides environmental education and technical assistance Performs inspections, interviews, technical reviews and recommends enforcement actions as needed Plans and conducts facility audits and inspections Prepares sampling plans and collects samples in accordance with established procedures Provides information to the public, regulated community, and enforcement officers regarding environmental laws and regulations Responds to environmental emergencies and conducts safety evaluations Reviews permit applications; drafts, modifies and issues permits in accordance with rules, regulations and established procedures Reviews permit requirements and regulations to ensure compliance with state and federal environmental laws Minimum Qualifications Environmental Health Specialist 1 – Salary $42,819.47 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which included 27 semester hours (or 40 quarter hours) in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.). Environmental Health Specialist 2 – Salary $47,101.41 Bachelor’s degree in laboratory sciences as above and one year of experience at the lower-level PH Environmental Health Specialist 1 (RCP120) or equivalent position. Note: Any agency-specific certification/training may count as experience. Environmental Health Specialist 3 – Salary $51,811.56 Bachelor’s degree in laboratory sciences and one year of experience at the lower-level PH Environmental Health Specialist 2 (RCP121) or equivalent position. Environmental Health Specialist 4 – Salary $58,547.06 Bachelor’s degree in laboratory sciences and one year of experience at the lower-level PH Environmental Health Specialist 3 (RCP122) or equivalent position. Environmental Health Specialist 5 – Salary $66,158.17 Bachelor’s degree in laboratory sciences, current registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist or Sanitarian by NEHA or equivalent credentialing board, and one year of experience as a PH Environmental Health Specialist 4 (RCP123) or equivalent position.
