Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate

Overview The Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate provides trauma-informed supportive services for clients in our domestic violence emergency shelter program, focusing on safety and stability. This position serves as the primary contact on the 24-hour crisis hotline to assist domestic violence victims and the community. Responsibilities Provide trauma-informed, client-centered support including crisis intervention, safety planning, needs assessment, and coordinating resources and services for domestic violence survivors. Respond to the 24-hour Domestic Violence Hotline to assist survivors and the public, including conducting intake interviews, shelter intakes, and referrals to community resources. Assist residential clients with accessing program services, resources, and understanding program guidelines. Collaborate with program staff to ensure services comply with protocols and follow through on assigned tasks. Ensure timely and accurate data entry and reporting (hotline information, client status updates, incident reports, and other requirements). Maintain shelter facility standards to provide a clean, safe environment and report maintenance or security needs. Comply with agency policies and procedures including confidentiality, safety, legal requirements, ethics, and administrative procedures. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, case conferences, trainings, and other agency requirements. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate degree in social work or a related human services field; minimum one year of social services experience (residential setting preferred) or equivalent. Experience with domestic violence survivors and families in a professional setting (preferred). Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency preferred. Completion of the 40-hour Domestic Violence training as approved by the State of California, or ability to complete certification within six months of hire (required). Proficiency in trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution. Ability to work respectfully with diverse populations in a culturally competent manner. Strong communication skills (oral and written) and effective listening. Ability to maintain professionalism and calmness in stressful situations and apply policies accordingly.
