Job Responsibilities
Summary:
Directs all activities of the Head Start, Early Head Start, CCDF, or ABC facility and ensures that all regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to BRAD Head Start/Early Head Start or ABC are followed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)
Responsible to ensure teachers provide planning and implementation of learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy, phonemic, and print awareness, their understanding and use of language, their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, their appreciation of books, their understanding of early math and early science, their problem-solving abilities, and their approaches to learning.
Responsible for ensuring teachers establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
Responsible for ensuring teachers support the social and emotional development of children.
Responsible for ensuring teachers encourage the involvement of the families of the children in a Head Start program and support the development of relationships between children and their families.
Monitors, reviews, and evaluates facility activities to ensure conformance to state and local regulations.
Responsible for ensuring preparation of referral packet and submission of complete packet to Child Development Manager within five working days from date of screening.
Oversees the election of parent committee officers.
Works with the parent committee president to schedule parent meetings to take place monthly.
Works with a parent committee representative to develop a monthly newsletter for parents.
Approves and initial all in-kind and submits to central office by the 5th of each month.
Enters absentees into the agency's child and family database system by the timelines that are set by the data systems administrator.
Approves Request for College Course forms for subordinates before sending them to the central office for final approval.
Attends Management Team Meetings and provides input into program improvement and planning.
Works with all center staff to ensure the environment is safe and healthy for children and staff.
Monitors the classrooms regularly, but not less than weekly to ensure that schedules are followed and activities are being carried out as planned, and that all staff are performing to their greatest potential following rules and regulations of the BRAD Child Development Programs.
Monitor transition rosters and email to Health and Safety Manager each Friday.
Monitors all health services to ensure compliance with all Head Start Program Performance Regulations and BRAD Head Start Program Implementation Plan with consultation from Health and Safety Manager as needed.
Monitors the documentation of fire safety inspections, and State Health Dept. to ensure that they are current.
Keeps current First Aid/CPR cards for all staff and sends copies to the central office.
Apply for grants when funds are made available with the assistance of the appropriate office staff.
Conducts staff meetings in the center to keep all staff informed and up to date on current events in the program. Documentation of meetings is submitted to the supervisor with signatures of all attendees. Have all memos/relevant emails signed by the center staff and attached to staff meeting minutes.
Conducts 45 & 90 day evaluations on all new employees as assigned.
Conducts annual performance evaluations on all assigned employees after their first year of employment.
Submits inventory report to central office each year by April 15th
Complete Health and Safety Checklist monthly.
Submit Maintenance Request Form to Child Development Manager as repairs are needed in center and on playgrounds. Emergency repairs should be submitted immediately.
Name a person to be in charge of the center when the Center Director is not present.
Answers all incoming phone calls into the center taking messages for classroom staff so not to interrupt the classrooms.
Work with a staff to ensure that all suspicions of child abuse and neglect are reported to the appropriate authorities.
Schedules substitutes to perform duties during the absence of regular employees.
Approves and signs all timesheets and travel logs and submits to the central office.
Responsible for orientation of all volunteers.
Maintains knowledge base in ABC regulations, CCDF regulations, Head Start performance standards, Environment Rating Scales, Child Care Licensing, Conscious Discipline, Early Childhood best practices, and all curricula used by B.R.A.D. Child Development Programs.
Responsible for progression in professional development.
Participate in cross-training initiatives for various roles to promote a well-rounded understanding of departmental functions.
Coordinates peer coaching site.
Collaborates with other center directors and coaches regarding staffing schedules in order to facilitate coaching needs of teaching staff at other centers.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises teachers, teacher assistants, nutrition leads, nutrition assistants, floaters and substitutes. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recommending for hire, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; reporting concerns to the Program Director; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool/infant and toddler age children.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of an organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes accurate numerical reports such as in-kind, mileage forms, and timesheets.
Reasoning Ability:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills & Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be willing to advance computer skills as needed for the job. Must be able to successfully operate IPads, Cell Phones, Video Monitoring systems, etc.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current driver’s license, First Aid and CPR certification, & Health Assessment.
Other Skills and Abilities: Excellent supervision skills. Skilled at communicating and working with adults and young children. Must be able to work flexible hours and/or overtime if necessary for after-school programs and parent meetings as needed.
Training & Safety Culture: Flexibility to attend evening greetings or training as needed; willingness to travel for training and conferences. Completion of all required training is mandatory.
