Education Manager

Salary: $63,000–$71,000, based on experience Position Overview The Alaska Raptor Center is seeking an individual to lead our educational programming and assist with interpretive materials to improve the student and visitor experience. Education at the Alaska Raptor Center focuses on connecting people with birds of prey through engaging, hands‑on learning experiences. We offer daily programs, guided tours, and interpretive talks that introduce visitors to raptor biology, conservation, and the challenges these birds face in the wild. By combining wildlife rehabilitation with public education, the center fosters a deeper understanding of Alaska's ecosystems and inspires visitors to play a role in protecting them. We provide tailored educational programs for the local school district, outreach with visiting school groups, and engagement with the Sitka community. A goal for our program is to better integrate Tlingit culture and ecological understanding with Western science in our educational programs. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and works collaboratively across all departments to ensure educational excellence, program innovation, and mission‑aligned experiences. Key Responsibilities Design, deliver, and evaluate daily programs, guided tours, and interpretive talks for visitors of all ages. Develop and maintain interpretive materials that reflect current raptor biology and conservation science. Build and lead tailored educational programs for the local school district and visiting school groups. Work to integrate Tlingit culture and ecological knowledge alongside Western science throughout ARC programming. Represent ARC in Sitka community engagement and outreach efforts. Collaborate across departments (rehabilitation, operations, development) to ensure programming aligns with ARC's mission. Qualifications Degree in Education, Environmental Science, Wildlife Biology, Natural Resources, or a related field. A background in or familiarity with Tlingit culture is preferred, to help incorporate local Indigenous knowledge into ARC educational programming. Experience supervising, training, or mentoring groups (students, staff, interns, volunteers, etc.). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable presenting to and engaging with audiences of varying sizes. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent tools. Able to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.
